Meet Joanna Miriam of Joanna Miriam Photographers in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Miriam.

Joanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photography has always been a passion for me. Starting in elementary school and picking up speed from there. Growing up, it became apparent that if you were not passionate about your career, you were miserable. So, I started doing what I love and the rest is history.

Using a style cultivated from working and learning from surf, portrait, wedding, commercial, lifestyle, fashion and movie poster photographers, I can truly say that there is not another photographer like me or my team out there.

Today, I manage a collective of photographers that have just as much passion as I do. We travel the world capturing a lifetime of unforgettable memories for people to cherish. When I am not behind the camera, you can find me producing Arts Abroad programs for the New York School of Visual Arts or behind the computer as a Digital Technician for some of the most promising photographers in the industry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No road is smooth and straight. There have been lots of obstacles and struggles. For starters, you are your own boss and you are trying to make a name for yourself while hustling to pay the bills. Sometimes you have to choose between the jobs that will further your career and the ones that will help you purchase your next piece of equipment.

We are also living in a digital world where everyone owns a camera and everyone thinks they are a photographer. Working in such a saturated market really makes you appreciate the amazing clients you come into contact with and form lasting relationships with. I love getting to grow with families and capture their individual journeys every step of the way.

Joanna Miriam Photographers – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a collective of photographic artists that capture everything from weddings to underwater dancers. We specialize in making everyday people feel extraordinary in front of the camera while recording forever moments in a whimsical and dreamy fashion.

We are the most proud of our professionalism and artistic eye. When meeting artists, you soon realize that some of the most brilliant ones are the hardest to communicate with. We pride ourselves in being approachable and ensuring that our clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. Then and only then, can you begin to capture true emotions.

What sets us apart is the feelings that our images invoke. Whether it is love, laughter, or just pure unfiltered silliness. Our goal is to bring out whatever emotions we are trying to capture.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is defined by my clients! Every-time I get an email or I see a comment on a photo on social media, I know why I do what I do. It’s not about trying to get rich. It’s about providing for your family so they don’t go without while doing what you love and bringing joy to your clients along with their friends and family.

Referrals to me are the highest form of success! A picture says a thousand words so if someone is contacting you because of your imagery, there isn’t much more you have to say.
