Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Joan Wright-Good.
Joan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had a good enough life business-wise for years, but I owned the last successful business with an abusive partner. After my divorce in 2008, I decided to take back my life. I left the industry that business was in and started a clothing boutique called Rizpah Fashions and a PR company writing press releases for artists and media personalities while providing outfits for their television appearances. I also began consulting with corporate giants like Craven A and Batco. It paid the bills but there was not enough to leverage into wealth.
In 2009, I wrote a book about some of the traumas I experienced growing up, how I overcame living in an orphanage, teenage pregnancy, abuse, homelessness, and leadership hurt and it went national. After just a couple of weeks as an Author, I was invited to speak at a women’s retreat where hundreds of hurting women received their breakthrough as a result. It was then that I realized I had a story and a solution for a problem that existed. I continued to share my story on several platforms and in the media. I have since spoken globally helping women and entrepreneurs breakthrough their limitations. Today, as an ordained Minister of the Gospel and a succesful CEO and business Coach, I speak on business platforms, churches, and spaces that allow personal growth. How did this transformation occur?
In 2011, I remarried but after dealing with a divorce, becoming a single mother and attending law school from pocket I became broke. I was also unemployed. I took my last $125 and invest it in starting a business. I had no mentor, no coach, no support but I had a plan, I had grit, experience, determination, and enough educational competence to guide me. I started a Marketing and administrative company in 2012 and then in 2014, I added the publishing company to the brand. After many pitfalls, and rejection, today JWG Publishing House stands as one of the most noted Publishing Company to come out of Florida, and Business Startup & Marketing Coaching Business in the US. We sponsor several global events, pay tuition for at-risk college freshmen, and just this year during the pandemic, we’ve coached over 300 entrepreneurs, on how to create 6-figure businesses and others on how to turn their stories into best selling books.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it was not. There were a lot of learning curves, no capital days, homeless days, family issue days, friends laughing at my endeavor days, and thoughts of giving up days. I have never taken out a loan for my business, but I can laugh now as I recall one day asking a friend for a small loan and was told ‘no,’ which I had no issues with until shortly after, my request ended up as part of a text thread conversation which was mistakenly sent to me instead of another friend. I was devastated but I learned from that experience, that everyone will not celebrate you and that’s fine, no one owes us anything and we are not responsible for anyone but ourselves individually.
I have had to fight self-doubt and lack of support like Mike Tyson in a boxing ring. I made peace with my journey when I realized I was just a conduit for God to channel His blessings through to others.
Please tell us about Business Start-up & Marketing Solutions and JWG Publishing House.
What we do is two-fold: We strategically help entrepreneurs to become unstuck, moving them from idea to multiple six figures. We consult with them and then walk them through the business startup process – from business registration, trademarking, tax setup, social media, marketing, TV commercials, radio, accounting services, website creation to locking in their first client.
Second fold: We are independent Book Publishers, that is, we help self publishing Authors with traditionally published services without collecting royalties or owning their work. We offer the full gamut of book publishing, from ghostwriting, editing, formatting, promotion, marketing, ebook, and print copies.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Nothing!

- Marketing starts at $300 for social media packages to $5,000 for TV, Radio, Billboard, Magazine, Blog interviews, and more. For 6 months Full TV and radio campaign commercials and mainstream interviews you pay $25,000.
