Meet Jezyrose Boediarto of Layunin Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jezyrose Boediarto.

Hi Jezyrose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a hopeless romantic, I was enamored by the sentiment that revolved around weddings. As cheesy as it sounds, I truly believe finding that special someone to spend your life with is a TRUE gift and something to be treasured. It’s not an easy thing to find so when you do, it deserves to be declared and celebrated.

Layunin Events got started out of our hearts to help people feel special, celebrated, and cared for on one of the most important days of their lives – their wedding day.

Growing up, I’ve experienced firsthand as well as seen family and friends lose joy, excitement and even sever relationships due to the frustration and the overwhelming stress that planning special events bring. It was this very reason that I found a passion to help others take off that load so they can feel celebrated and experience their special day.

In 2011, I planned my very first wedding. At first, it started with just helping out friends and family for free. Then out of word of mouth, eventually became something I did on the side while either going to school or work. Growing up in an Asian household where professional careers meant being in an office, in healthcare or working a “stable” job, I couldn’t see wedding planning as more than just a side hustle. Eventually, working a 9 to 5 job + having a side gig burnt me out and I stopped doing weddings. Out of curiosity, I pursued a corporate job in the tech industry which went quite well especially as I continued to do more corporate events but my love for weddings never truly ceased. When the pandemic hit and I was part of the layoffs, it forced me to reassess my passion and think hard about my purpose. I tried different things which eventually brought me back to my first love…wedding planning. With the support of my husband, family and friends, I took a leap of faith – pushing aside the worries of starting your own business and decided to officially get out of the corporate world. In October of 2022, I partnered with my husband and we officially launched Layunin Events.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t a smooth road. It was more like a tug-of-war. After getting laid off, I was figuring out if I should take a leap of faith and start a business or look for another job. It was difficult to move away from the way our mind was conditioned to do good in school so you can have a good job and to have a good job so you can make money. Starting your own business meant uncertainty especially in terms of financial stability and with the pandemic, it was an even more difficult decision to pursue entrepreneurship. We were approached by a friend who would eventually become our business partner, solidifying our decision to start our own business. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out and were again left to decide whether to continue entrepreneurship or go back to the comfort of a steady paycheck. After much thought, prayers and consultation with family, friends and mentors, my husband and I decided to start a business by ourselves. And so, we began dreaming, planning and working on Layunin Events. While planning, we experienced a lot of loss and grief both in family, friends and professionally. Then, a month before we planned to launch, my husband was hospitalized in the ICU and yet again, became uncertain about continuing or not. After many prayers, my husband improved quickly and when he recovered, we continued to work on the business and finally launched in October of 2022. After launching, we hustled and to our surprise, reached our goal for the business’s 1st year within six months. We are still very early in our business and we know there’s going to be a lot more to learn, problems to fix and struggles to face but with the love and support of God, our family, friends and community – we can continue to persevere, push forward and turn dreams into reality.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband and also 1/2 of Layunin Events: My husband, Darryl Boediarto – was neither into event planning nor did he ever think he would be involved in wedding planning – yet now he gets excited getting to know our couples and helping coordinate weddings. Motivated by his desire to see me live into my purpose and enjoy doing what I get to do, his support is the reason why I found the confidence to pursue this full-time. Though this originally started as my own venture…from physical labor all the way to graphic design, his hands are all over Layunin Events and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without him.

Parents: Family is a significant part of our lives and we wouldn’t be able to pursue this business without their guidance and even financial support. When days get so busy that we forget to eat, they are there to bring us food. When we needed equipment, they are there to help us get equipment. Without their care and trust in us, Layunin Events would not have been birthed at all.

Church Family at Cityline Church: Probably one of our biggest cheerleaders are our church family. Our pastors and leaders believe in us and genuinely care for our personal and professional well-being. They’ve allowed us to use the church’s space to create some of our marketing materials or meet with our team. They share their resources to help us succeed. Some of our church family are also business owners who continue to cheer us on, guides us, support our endeavors, and even partner with us to help lift our business up.

Our team and community: Our team currently consists of our family & friends. If there’s one thing people should know about wedding planners is that we wouldn’t be able to do any of it alone. We need support and for that reason, we wouldn’t be able to successfully execute any wedding without them. They are rockstars

Our community: We are huge advocates of community over competition and we are so grateful for the community of planners that we have in this industry who have mentored us and continue to cheer us on. We are also grateful for the community of vendors who also trusts us, refer couples to us, and genuinely believe in our work

Our couples: Because we really wouldn’t be here without our brides and grooms who entrust their special day into our care 🙂
