Meet Jeremiah De Matteis of Inland empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah De Matteis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been praying magic 20+ years since I was a kid. Like many I got a magic kit and that led to being focused in on doing magic to learn from books as well as finding someone who knew some magic and we have him teach me to the point where we would start to learn together. I stopped performing after college to peruse my career in pastoring and would then find my way back to performing again doing magic on a more consistent basis semi professionally working comedy clubs, public shows, Speakeasy’s and many private events.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every road has its pot holes cracks and bumps it’s not been easy but that’s what makes it all the more sweeter when successes become present. I find always being ready and prepared for any moment or situation it’s best because that’s what’s taken me to where I am now. Being able to be on shows at the comedy store, ice house and the magic castle it’s all such a sweet victory. It’s also not the easiest road there’s still the hours of practice and family that come with the success and it’s those hours no sees because it’s not what people see. I will say my road has been in the nicer side of things because of where I’ve gotten but I’d say I’m fortunate to be there because I had been putting in flight hours well before Perusing career again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in close-up slide of hand, Magic as well as comedy parlor style Magic and I’ve been doing this for the last two years consistently again. One thing I am known for is doing magic with Twinkies and being very engaging and interactive with my magic crowds. People say I’m very personable and my Magician friend say I do more comedy and my comedy friends say I do more Magic so I think I found a beautiful blend of both that fits my own style so I’m proud that I’ve created my own style. I think what sets me apart is the way I engage can change the outcome of a trick I originally planned and I can change and move it to do something else and just do a more free flow style of a show.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think my open approach and attitude is something that stands out as well as being personable to my audience, and whoever is helping me with the trick being willing to get to know them really ask them genuine questions and create them to be a part of the performance rather than just performing.
