Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Tejada.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in the hospitality industry since I was 16, working my way up from server to now manager. I have a deep love for the service world and the local bar scene here in Long Beach, I moved here from the Bay Area to attend CSULB and have been here since. I quickly found a second home in the local bar and restaurant scene and now I proudly manage the Reno Room.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think a lot of people can agree that the pandemic was one of the hardest times for so many of us. Having to adapt, often overnight was definitely challenging. Between shifting health guidelines, attempting to retain all my staff, and customer safety concerns, it definitely pushed me to become more flexible, creative, and communicative than ever.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I manage the Reno Room, one of Long Beach’s long standing neighborhood bars.My role is a mix of everything! I think people know me for being hands on and calm under pressure. I deeply care about my staff who most have been with me for many many years. I love creating and caring for a place where my team feels supported and a place where my guests feel they belong. I am mostly proud of my growth along the way. Managing a place like the Reno Room is an honor, where locals have made memories for years. It means a lot to me to lead a space that brings so many people together and still feels authentic.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my staff for always making my job easier because this place wouldn’t be what it is without them. But most importantly my boss who saw something in me since day one. From the moment I started with his guidance and his trust, he gave me the space to lead in my own way. That kind of belief and mentorship isn’t something you find everywhere and I’m incredibly grateful for it.
