Meet Jennifer Esparza of JDE Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Esparza.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve worked in the fashion apparel industry for over 15 years. I knew I always wanted to write a book but I kept throwing it to the side and focusing on fashion. I got a writing quill tattoo on my right wrist a few years ago knowing that I would make that dream come true one day. I wrote my first book and let it sit for about a year. Finally, I decided if I didn’t do it now I was never going to do it. Time and opportunities presented themselves to me. So, at the beginning of this year I picked it up, dusted it off and set a date to launch it. ‘Keep It Simple, Sexy’ launched June 2019. It’s a quick reference version of hard to read self-help books. It’s from my own Self-help journey that I’ve experienced and gone through over the past ten years. It’s fun, sexy and easy to read. And in July of this year, I launched ‘Pop The Cork Podcast’ which I co-host with my best friend. We probably started throwing the idea around for about a year. We love to drink wine while we catch up. We entertain ourselves. We thought everybody should hear our conversations. So the podcast is us popping open a bottle of wine and sharing stories about everything and nothing.

Has it been a smooth road?
The opportunities and timing seemed pretty smooth. There were a couple obstacles but they weren’t too hard to maneuver at all. I mean, if you want something done you’re going to power through and make it happen. Am I right? And since these are passion projects they didn’t seem like hard work at all. I probably high-fived myself and my co-host more times this year than I ever have my entire life. I think it was fear that was the biggest obstacle. But I told fear to hit the road… Haha! That’s actually the last chapter of my book… “Fearless”.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
JDE group is my company which encompasses my fashion consulting, the book writing, and the podcast. So I guess you could say I specialize in a lot of different areas that are entertaining to different people. I feel like the things that I do within my company are all joy, happy, laughter, love and overall good feelings. When I think about it, I think of my favorite color, which is pink. I know… So girly! But it’s, I guess, a child-like feeling of excitement that I get. I honestly hope that translates to people who are reading my book, listening to our podcast or are a part of my business community.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Everyone comes to LA to live their best life. Their dream life. So, yes, I would say this is the place to be. Being a native Californian I see how much the city has grown. Even my small hometown of Valencia is poppin. But LA has a lot of space. A lot of brilliant people to learn from. To rub elbows with. To network with. And of course to eat amazing food with. I love LA! I would suggest not coming here if traffic scares you.
