Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Bosley.
Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Colorado and raised by an Emergency Room physician father and a stay at home mother. Went to school, played sports, went to (a LOT) of college where I studied pre-med, journalism, theatre and sports medicine (this is where I truly embraced my childhood dream of acting-I spent every waking moment in the theatre working and/or performing), joined the Army, became an Army Special Forces Green Beret, then became a Firefighter and I’m now back to acting for a career in Los Angeles. That’s the short, take one deep breath, version.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lord no! Nothing about this business is reliable and proportionate to work put in. I come from careers where your fate is in your hands. In Hollywood, you can put all the work in and simply not “fit the part” despite work ethic, talent and time put in. That’s incredibly difficult and a part of the beast that is hardest for me to deal with no matter how long I’ve been here and how old I get.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an actor primarily. I’m branching into producing films simply as another way to get a chance to act more. I love acting and have studied it for years in college, in live theatre and at the Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. I’m known mostly for my duality: the hard-ass tough guy who can actually act and be sensitive. Many assume because of my Special Forces background, I can’t act to save my life. Then they get to know me and my theatrical background and experience and they are pleasantly surprised.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I loved entertaining, yet I preferred to be kind of a loner who had a select, small group of friends. My obsession with things I wanted was there even as a kid. If I wanted something, I would do everything in my power to get it. Sometimes to a fault…nothing has changed now that I think about it.
