Hi Jasmine , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in San Bernardino, CA and I am a first generation college graduate. I attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock and completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in three years. Initially, I had my sights set on becoming a journalist. However, after exploring that further and shadowing my mentor during my senior year of college at the LA Times, I realized that I didn’t want to be a journalist. Instead, after, spending some time in the PR department at the LA Times, I knew right away that PR was just what I was looking for in a profession: the perfect blend of storytelling and marketing. As such, I enrolled in USC’s Strategic PR graduate program and completed that program in December 2006, working as an intern and junior publicist during the day and attending classes at night.

From there, I spent the next two decades supporting a variety of PR agencies as an employed publicist and even working internally for corporate giants like Toshiba and Kawasaki Motors. After experiencing an unexpected divorce at the age of 30, I made the jump to entrepreneurialism, relocated with my two toddler daughters, and planted some roots in Rancho Palos Verdes in an effort to rebuild my life and get closer to LA’s robust media market and entrepreneurial opportunities. In 2017, I launched my boutique PR agency called THE PR GUILD and created big agency results with the vibes of a small agency for a small roster of clients. After a few years of running my agency, I found myself getting lost in the management of people and systems and sales…and further and further from the thing that really lit me up: the nuts and bolts of being a really good publicist. Something had to give.

Fast forward to early 2023, and life had shifted once again. I’d remarried, had a third daughter, and became a stepmom to two incredible kids. I had officially stepped away from sitting at the helm of my boutique agency and took some time to reimagine my business and the way I wanted to serve others with my gifts. During that time, I had the bittersweet fortune of supporting my husband and children as we cared for my father-in-law in our home on hospice, and I had the opportunity to serve in a leadership role to scale another start-up PR agency to 7 figures in 12 months. And…well, the rest is history. I am absolutely crystal clear now on how to best serve my clients as an independent personal publicist.

Today, I’ve bravely shifted back into alignment…a recovering PR agency owner back in the saddle in LA as an independent personal publicist. With decades of experience in the field, and heaps of wisdom that comes from a life well lived, I am here for this new era. I’ve eradicated the agency “fluff,” removed the red tape and limitations of the outdated PR agency model, and creating something new for my clients and me. It’s just me, them, and a laser-focus on the endless press opportunities to chase and win on their behalf.

Above all else, I feel so incredibly grateful to be in this place, with 20+ years under my belt as a publicist and heaps of life experience, living in LA – the second largest media markets in the world, equipped with the confidence that comes from a series of professional wins and the foundations of having been formally trained in the #1 graduate program in the nation – USC’s graduate program in strategic PR. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve failed forward more times than I can count, and I have had to work really hard for every opportunity that has been afforded to me. Figuring out how to be consistent in my ability to serve both my clients and the needs of my family has been made a world of distance.

Life isn’t perfect, and it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. From divorce and coparenting challenges, Covid shut downs and unforeseen circumstance, I’ve definitely stumbled some on my journey. But, the stumbling is still progress forward and has helped me to build up my resilience and endurance which has only strengthened me as an entrepreneur.

Any big plans?
I love where I am at with my business at the moment, but of course, I hope to continue to scale over time and serve even more deserving entrepreneurs, authors and though leaders through my bespoke publicity campaigns. I would love to speak on stages to inspire others to chase their entrepreneurial dreams, and would love to more widely share my visibility tips and tricks with the world. I am launching my podcast, Full Bloom, in the fall, which will be lots of fun and a great way for me to amplify my own voice as well as the stories of my guests.
