Meet Janelle Magdaleno of Intuitive Wanderer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Magdaleno.

Hi Janelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Janelle Magdaleno. I am a certified Reiki Master, Psychic, Medium, Sound Healer, Astrologer, and Diksha Practitioner.

One of my earliest memories dates back to when I was four years old. I lived in an apartment with a long hallway lined with mirrors on one side, and my room was at the end. For some reason, I always felt uncomfortable in the hallway, so I used to run to my room every time. Then one day, I was running to my room when I passed one of the mirrors and I noticed that instead of my reflection, it was a man’s image. From that day on, I began seeing ghosts almost everywhere I went. Of course, as a young girl, I was tremendously afraid but kept it to myself. As a teenager, the paranormal activities started to get worse and became almost a nightly occurrence. I grew up in a very strict Christian household where subjects such as these were strictly taboo, so I suffered in silence. By the age of fourteen, I studied my first metaphysical subject, astrology, and fell in love. At sixteen, I became an international traveler and fell in love with seeing the world. Since then, I have traveled to over fifteen countries and have encountered paranormal activity along the journey. When I was in my early 20’s, I moved to my own apartment. I just thought that the places I grew up were haunted, and by moving to a new location, I could put the past behind me. It only got worse. Then one day, I decided to go see a medium and she told me that I was also a medium and ghost were coming to me for help. After that, I knew I had to do something.

I discovered a metaphysical school that helped train me in my mediumship abilities. There, I also discovered the wonderful world of healing through Reiki. I went on to get certified as a Psychic, Medium, and Reiki Master. At the time, I had a respectable career working as a store manager for a retail luxury fashion brand. I never once thought about making my abilities a career, but the universe had other plans for me. In my early 30’s, I had reached the top of my career but lost the passion for my work. So, I decided to start a business where I could do the work I was born to do, and in 2019, Intuitive Wanderer was born. I was still working my full-time job and had no plans on leaving a secure job with benefits. I just wanted something on the side to have a sense of purpose and help others along the way. Doors started opening for my business, and organic traffic started to flow in. All the while, I was working full-time, running a small business, going to school, and still trying to find time for my personal life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The year 2020 was a pivotal year for me as well as the rest of the world. I had a sense leading up to it that it was going to be a big year of change, but no one could foresee the devastation it would bring. My business was starting to take off. I was practicing Reiki in a chiropractic office alongside massage therapists. The COVID-19 virus was a new topic, but the future looked uncertain. In mid-January, I graduated from metaphysical school. Later that day, I found out devastating news about my family that would transform my personal life forever. With everything going on, I neglected to make time for my loved ones, thinking they would always be there. A month later, what felt like overnight, the government shut down the world and closed all non-essential businesses. Luckily, I still had my job. While in the meantime, I could still practice Reiki since it was in a medical office. For me, the shutdown was sweet relief. This gave me the perfect opportunity to dive deeper into my business and give it my full attention, while also giving myself the time to grieve and heal from the shock of my family issues.

When mid-June came around, the world was still shutdown, and my job decided to close my store. I had to call and lay off all my employees. Then, I had a month to go into the store to close it all up for good. At that time, I had also received news that the metaphysical school I was attending was closing down, and I was one of the last students to graduate. Then, on top of everything, I found out that the chiropractic office I was working at was closing as well. In six months, I went from being on top of the world with a bright future to having everything I thought was secure ripped away from every aspect of life. The last few days of closing the store were a rollercoaster of emotions, but somehow, I had a peaceful sense of calm and hope that everything happening was just the push I needed to go down the path I was truly meant for. The day before the store was going to be locked up for good, my job offered me another location, but I turned them down. Even though it wasn’t the most logical choice at the time, and the future was so uncertain, I decided to take a risk and stick to my new path.

In October 2020, my new path began to unfold. I had saved enough money to get by, I found my own space to run my business out of, and I was taking time to reconnect with my family. Since then, I have had been on multiple podcasts, been featured in a documentary about Reiki, have won many small business recognition awards, became a writer, and even found a deeper love for myself and others. Even though it took several years to get where I am today, I wouldn’t change anything from my past. No business is without risks, and there will always be ups and downs. As long as you never lose the enthusiasm for your work, the will to push forward, you can succeed. Napoleon Hill once said, “Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” and I am living proof of that.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Intuitive Wanderer, our tagline is, “Align your compass to true north.” I strive to create a safe environment where you’re free to be your authentic self. I’m a natural-born medium and studied under some of the greatest teachers such as Anne Reith, Kyle Gray, and Colette Baron-Reid. I’ve been trained in many different modalities such as Reiki, Chakra Healing, Oracle cards, Angel Cards, Tarot, Runes Casting, Crystals, Past lives, Akashic Records, Pendulum, Numerology, Astrology, Perceiving Auras, Emotional Freedom Tapping, Automatic Writing, Intuitive Art, Dream Interpretation, Feng Shui, Color Therapy, Psychometry, Animal Totems, & Mediumship. Intuitive Wanderer is a one-stop shop for all things spiritual. I offer many different services.

Whether a client is interested in a healing or reading, they receive a little bit of both. My energy healing sessions aren’t just to heal the physical body; I use my intuitive abilities to unlock the core issues that brought the client to heal in the first place. I also help clients on a psychological and emotional level to reframe the past and connect them to their true, authentic self. During readings, I love supporting people on their own journey by giving them a broader perspective on life. As well as affirming that we are all able to directly connect to source energy, and this infinite love is available to us always.

Some of my biggest accomplishments is receiving recognition awards from Yelp (three years in a row), Google, Business Rate, as well as hundreds of five-star ratings from various sources. But the thing I’m most proud of is the thousands of clients I’ve helped over the years. I love it when a client walks in for the first time feeling a certain way, then walks out of my office with a smile on their face and a new profound outcome on life. I know that their experience was something they’ll never forget.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’ve lived in Orange most of my life. One thing I love about this city is seeing it become a historical town. Orange used to be farm land that grew a lot of citrus. Some of the homes are over 100yrs old, and once a home reaches that mark, it becomes a protected structure that can’t be changed on the outside. I believe it’s important to preserve our history. In the center of town, there is an area that is called the Orange Circle because it has a large roundabout with a fountain in the center. The surrounding area is full of antique shops, old pubs, and vintage restaurants. Some businesses have been around for over 50 years. It’s also been the site of movie backdrops such as “That Thing You Do” with Tom Hanks.

One thing I find hard about living in Southern California is that it’s difficult to buy a home because of the prices. When my grandmother bought her home in Orange, she purchased it for less than $20,000 in the late 60’s. Now, homes in the surrounding area are easily over a million dollars. This has a lot to do with inflation but also with the fact that the area stopped developing new homes for many decades; now there’s a housing shortage. My husband and I have good careers, no debt, no kids, and we still can’t afford to fulfill the American dream.
