Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Saginor.
Jaime, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I went through a period of time in my mid-twenties where my health took a dive for no obvious reason. I was an athlete a vegetarian, always felt pretty good, and suddenly I had zero energy and major digestive issues overnight. The doctors said all my tests came back clean and there was nothing wrong with me, but there clearly was. It took me many years and a lot of exploration into alternative modalities and eventually into nutrition, before I understood the perfect storm of emotional and internal events that had taken place. In the process of getting myself back to health, I developed a passion for holistic nutrition. I then decided to attend the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and formally become a Holistic Health Coach.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business always has its challenges. While working with my clients has always felt natural and incredibly fulfilling, the technical side, the marketing, and dealing with websites has been a huge learning curve for me! Also, I think as a coach you realize at some point who your clients are, and who they’re not; for instance, I don’t work with people dealing with major eating disorders, because that is beyond my area of expertise. But people dealing with sugar addiction, now that’s right up my alley!
Please tell us about Jaime Saginor, Certified Health Coach.
Many of my clients are creative professionals, dealing with hectic and inconsistent schedules and a lot of stress. I support them to find sustainable ways to eat healthy, exercise, and lower stress within their lifestyle. Typical goals that my clients have: weight loss, increase energy, clear up skin, improve gut and digestive issues, have consistent healthy habits, more life balance, feel comfortable in their own body, and increase confidence. I’m also an expert in sugar cravings since I’m a bona-fide ex-sugar addict!
I work with my clients one-on-one to help them change their habits, to get at the underlying blocks people have, to increase self-love and confidence, and to help them find intrinsic motivation (instead of will power and discipline) by tapping into the cause/effect of different foods on their body. There is no one right diet for everyone, and so it’s a highly individualized process. Unlike typical diets or weight-loss programs, my program is not about cutting calories and restriction; it’s an overall transformation. The ultimate goal is sustainable health.
We also spend a lot of time dealing with ‘primary foods:’ the things in life that nourish you but don’t come on a plate. Because when your primary foods are in balance, it makes what you eat secondary. But when they’re out of balance, it directly affects what you eat, how much you eat, and what you crave.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in New Hampshire next to the woods. Playing in the woods where your imagination could run wild, those are some good childhood memories.
