Meet Jaime Barba of Jaime Lynn B Photography in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Barba.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jaime. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Photography has always been a passion. I moved to Lake Tahoe when I was 17 years old and was absolutely mesmerized by its beauty. I picked up a camera shortly after and started documenting its unreal sunrises/sunsets and every scenic shot in between. As an avid snowboarder, I loved to capture the sport but quickly realized how much competition there was in the industry. I worked at a local photography shop in Tahoe City for almost 5 years. I spent hours developing film for local artist’s and grew to love and appreciate a photojournalist approach. Then finally I had the opportunity to photograph one of my best friend’s pregnancy journeys from start to finish and absolutely fell in love with my accidental results. I had no flash or lighting system. I used a white sheet and a large window. There, I found my style. It emphasizes the full range of tones between highlight and shadow; I love to elevate the silhouettes of a growing belly to an unmatched level. I create full tone silhouette photographs combined with highlights, deep dark shadows and an amazing range of shades in-between.  The unique lines from a pregnant woman’s body, to a newborn face, they’re transformed into an intimately timeless work of photographic art.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road I’ve traveled in my career hasn’t always been smooth. I feel the industry is flooded with photographers and it’s important to separate yourself artistically in a way that you don’t see every day, but by doing so, you’re left with a lot of self-doubt and questions of if you’re good enough to stand out from the rest. I’ve found to overcome these obstacles, I rely on my photography to speak for her itself. I strive to create a relaxed and comfortable experience while capturing a variety of artistic portraits. With an eye for perfect moments and unique perspectives, I love to create portraits that are beautiful, intimate, and emotional.

Please tell us about Jaime Lynn B Photography.
In 2014, my husband and I opened an art studio in Sunset Beach, CA, called Conclave Art Studio. There, we both work alongside each other. He, a world-renowned tattoo artist and me a photographer, working together and artistically collaborating off one another. With a unique and edgy approach to lifestyle photography, I specialize in maternity, newborn, family and hospital portraiture. I love to “capture life as it happens” with the camera, and enjoy creating timeless images of families, as they embark on the most amazing, life altering experiences as each milestone is hit growing a family. As a new mother of a beautiful baby girl named, Berlin, I understand the importance of capturing the first moments of creation as human life begins. When called to a hospital room to document the first 48 of a baby’s life, the wave of emotions and excitement is like no other. I feel grateful to be part of such an exhilarating experience. My portrait sessions are customized to reflect all personalities and styles no matter where I am. In my opinion, the most important part of photography is the connection between you and your subject. I love getting to know each of my clients and creating one-of-a-kind photography art that will be treasured forever.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My childhood was a lot of fun. I grew up in a large, extremely loving and supportive family. My parents always taught us to appreciate everything we have and take nothing for granted. We were surrounded by nature, from the mountains of Lake Tahoe to the beaches of Southern California and everything in-between. My favorite memory was time spent with my mother who is no longer here. She was my biggest fan and a huge supporter of my photography passion. I draw from my childhood experiences to relate to my clients and create timeless images that will last a lifetime.
