Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacq Becker.
Jacq, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in a musical family listening to Motown artists like The Supremes and Stevie Wonder and often accompanied my mom to her rehearsals with a local band. I gravitated towards pop and jazz music from a young age and started singing the National Anthem at LA Clippers and Angel’s baseball games at the age of nine.
Later on, I eventually took my music on the road, performing throughout Europe in Florence, Rome, and London with frequent visits to Nashville. My original songs were placed in major TV and film productions (Top 5 starring Chris Rock, Pretty Little Liars, Seven Days in Utopia starring Robert Duvall.) Soon after, I signed my first record and publishing deal during which I had the opportunity to work with some of my professional idols such as producers and writers for John Legend, Sade, and Alicia Keys. As most record deals go unfortunately, my music was never released so I have been working these past years to write music that is both meaningful and reflective of where I am musically today. My new songs are a modern brand of pop with inflections of jazz and wistful soul. Excited to finally release new music after all these years!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly not been the easiest of paths, but grateful for all the ups and downs. Was disheartening to pour my heart into songs during my record deal years and never see the songs come out. Everything happens for a reason and I used the experiences I went through during those challenging years to write a collection of songs I’m super proud of.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer/songwriter who loves timeless and soulful music. My music is a blend of modern pop with bits of jazz and R&B. Will be self- releasing new music for the first time in many years on 7/10!
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I became a new mom a couple of years ago and my proudest moment was hearing my little guy try to sing some of my lyrics 🙂
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Favorite childhood memory was harmonizing in the car with my mom and sister on long road trips singing along to the oldies station.
