Today we’d like to introduce you to Iván Magdaleno.
Hi Iván , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My life journey has been anything but conventional, but it has undoubtedly prepared me for the fast-paced and productive lifestyle that I lead today. At a young age, my father’s illness instilled a sense of urgency within me to make a difference. Growing up in the hardcore punk scene, I was inherently anti-establishment and gravitated towards do-it-yourself (DIY) culture. Driven by a desire to both support my family and pursue my creative passions, I made the decision to study finance and business.
Through this education, I have been able to financially provide for my loved ones while simultaneously funding my own creative endeavors. Currently, I have access to various resources, including a studio, film equipment, toys, and music equipment, which I utilize to pursue my own goals as well as help clients in their own creative pursuits.
My unique background has imbued me with skills and experiences that are invaluable in today’s fast-paced world. My non-traditional upbringing and inclination towards independent thinking have instilled in me a sense of drive, creativity, and resilience that have proven to be crucial in my success thus far.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout my life I’ve faced various challenges and struggles in my life. I’ve faced difficulties related to being a misunderstood creative, lacking emotional intelligence, and being ostracized by social circles and family.
These experiences can be challenging and difficult to navigate. However, I believe that overcoming obstacles and learning from them can lead to growth and personal development. In retrospect, it may not have been easy or smooth but I now love to reflect on the lessons I have learned and the priceless skills I have gained through these experiences.
One of the greatest lessons that I learned is the importance of finding a supportive community that understands and appreciates my creative pursuits. Additionally, working on improving my emotional intelligence is also proving to be helpful in building stronger and more fulfilling relationships. Overall, I believe that my challenges have made stronger and more resilient, and I constantly find ways to use these experiences to grow, learn and thrive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally I work in finance remotely for a software company in Chicago. My own business outside of this is everything music and visuals. I currently run Sonora Studio, a visual and creative consulting company. I also run and operate The Monastery. I’ll explain below:
The Monastery, the music studio, is a space where creatives can come together to create and heal through the power of music. As a donation-based, non-profit organization, The Monastery is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive space for all. The name itself, “Monastery,” evokes images of spiritual retreats and contemplative practices. Drawing from esoteric knowledge and monkish ideas, The Monastery provides a unique environment where musicians can explore their creativity and connect with their inner selves. Whether you’re an experienced musician or just starting out, The Monastery is a place where you can feel supported, inspired, and free to express yourself in a safe and nurturing environment.
