Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac Takeuchi.
Hi Isaac, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Hawaii. My family moved to the San Fernando Valley when I was 3 years old. When I was 8 my parents started me on the accordion. I picked up the guitar and cello when I was 12. I spent a lot of time learning rock songs by ear when I was a teenager. I studied performance at Cal State Northridge. I’ve been in a number of bands post college. Tes Elations and Inner Ecstasy were my projects. I also played in Slumber Beast, Voice on Tape and a short stint in Chelsea Wolfe. Since then I’ve been focusing on teaching and classical composition.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely have had my fair share of challenges. I would say the hardest thing is keeping bands together. People have their own adult lives for one thing. Also it can be difficult to align different visions towards the same goal. This is why I choose to mostly compose by myself these days.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say that I have a breadth of musical skill. I’m not exceptional at any one thing but I can do many things well. I would say I’m primarily a composer then cellist. I can write, score music and orchestrate, I I can also record music in many genres. I also teach cello, piano, violin, guitar.
I would say the thing I’m most im proud of is my ability to compose music particularly in traditional styles. Baroque, classical etc
I’m currently working on an album and should be dropping a song and video soon! Stay tuned on my website and socials.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
God has given me a talent and for that i am immensely grateful. My parents first and foremost. They supported me emotionally through thick and thin. My teachers all throughout the years. I’m very fortunate to now be a teacher and to pass on this knowledge which has been taught for hundreds of years. It’s a beautiful thing. Also very grateful to my collaborators in the various projects I’ve been a part of.
