Meet Hillary Michaels, Medium in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary Michaels.

Hillary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Some years ago, in my early 30s, when I was a fashion designer, I started feeling like I was being followed by a spirit man. I went to a medium to find out if there was actually a man following me or if I was just making it up. The medium confirmed that there was in fact a man in spirit following me, and that I too was a medium. She also told me that I would be doing this work someday. I didn’t believe her, I wanted to be a top fashion designer in LA.

After the reading, I felt more comfortable opening up my gifts, and allowing myself to believe what I was hearing and seeing. My days at the sewing machine were filled with conversations with spirit people. I could see them everywhere around me. Eventually, I got to the point where I couldn’t exist normally with other people without seeing spirits around them. It’s an odd thing when you are having a conversation with someone, and you’re not looking at them, but their grandmother hovering around them, or turning your head to see a wandering spirit man walking by.

Within a year of seeing the medium, my fashion business crumbled, every door in my life closed, and I had no choice but to become a medium. It was the only thing that was actually working well in my life. After 6 months of resisting my call, I ended up opening my doors for readings.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has absolutely been the roughest road I have ever been on in my whole life. Not only because it’s a business that I have to keep up with, and build up… every business owner struggles with that in some way. My struggles have been mainly around myself, and keeping myself out of the way of my work. The feeling of failure, and potential failure is something that has come up for me a lot in the past, and it’s been quite a lesson to learn how to suppress that. I also have very little support from family. I mean when you tell your family you’re going to do this kind of work as your only income… as you can imagine it took a while to convince them that I wasn’t crazy. Not sure they are full convinced yet.

As you would imagine financial struggle was a huge part of this. As a healer, I have to maintain the mindset that I am not doing this work for financial gain, and that I am helping people heal, and giving them a sense of peace about their passed loved ones. Although, at the end of the day I still have to live and pay for student loans, and my car. At some point, I learned that when I let go of the outcome and give up control, to the same force (GOD) that put me in this career in the first place, my life flows quite nicely.

Declaring that I am a medium is something that has been a bit of a challenge for me when it comes to getting an office or filling out rental applications. People either don’t understand what I do, or they don’t think you are financially worthy. I typically use “Life Coach” as my coverup… don’t tell anyone. 🙂

Medium Hillary Michaels – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

I am a spiritual medium, which means that I am able to connect with my clients passed loved ones and receive any messages that they would like to pass on to family. I ask that the clients write down questions for the family members and keep them to themselves. Passed loved ones will often come through to tell the person that they are ok, and offer a message of healing. Typically, the written questions will all be answered by the end of the session, without me knowing what they are.

I am often able to offer details about the spirit person. Typically, they’ll give me some key details like what they look like, what they did for a living, how they passed, names, dates….and so on. This type of validation is helpful for the client, so that they can recognize who is coming through, and really know for sure that it’s them! This type of reading was so helpful for me when I went to see my first medium, I hope to offer the same experience for my clients.

A couple times a month I offer classes in Pasadena for people that would like to become mediums themselves. I offer a Beginner Mediumship Class, and a few development groups for Beginners, and Intermediate/ Advanced. All of them can be found on my website. My most popular program is my mentoring program. I work with students over the phone to perfect, and help them develop their gifts until they are ready to become a professional themselves. From this program, I have several students all over the country that I’ve sent off to be professional mediums. I’m very happy with this program, and I hope that it can serve more people with it in the future.

How am I different from other mediums? Well, I’m happy to say that I am completely self-taught. Shortly after my gifts opened up, I did a series of free readings, over the phone, for practice. A spirit man named John helped me make those phone calls, and walked me through the process of doing a reading. Since then I have been completely self (spiritually) taught. When I do a reading, I get my information strictly from spirits that are coming from light (heaven). I work very hard to keep a high vibration in my personal life, so that I can continue to connect with these higher beings. I also have the ability to help spirits who are stuck on this side cross over. I tend to get a lot of clients with family members who passed away, and didn’t ascend into the light. I often find that these types of spirits just really like being around their family, and feel that if they move on they can’t be as close to them anymore. The truth is that once you cross over, you can come back and be close to them again. Some of these types of spirits will still feel grief over their own passing, which actually perpetuates the family’s grief for long periods of time. When you have a family member stuck to you, you are basically sharing feelings. So if they are hurting, you’ll hurt that much more. It’s so important that we recognize these types of spirits and help them get home, so they can heal and the family can start their healing process. I have seen circumstances where spirits will stay here just because their life was cut short, and they don’t feel like it’s their time to leave. We have to honor their feelings about that, pray for them, and let them carry out their wishes to stay. It’s not always a bad thing if they end up staying on this side. I just do a simple prayer, and eventually someone comes to get them and take them home.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I have thought that having a business that makes a lot of money is a successful one. Of course, through my mediumship journey I have learned the opposite. When successful business it means that you are meeting the needs of your clients, and they happy with your services. With that, I think that you are successful if your service is effective in delivering, and exceeding their expectations. The way you can do that is if you absolutely love what you do!

I want to make sure that the services and classes that I’m offering are effective. In the beginning, I can honestly say that I was just selling classes, and selling readings. At one point, I started asking god to work through me to help the people I was serving, and that changed everything! I think doing that has changed my objective, and has made the outcome of my services more successful. When you are just selling something to make money, getting more money becomes the objective, and that actually turns people away. Clients know when you are really there to help them, they can see the love in your work!
