Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Pomije. Below you’ll find edited excerpts of our interview with Anthony.
Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been doing hair for about six years now. I originally studied at Paul Mitchell in Sherman Oaks. But the bulk of my training came from Dj Muldoon, who used to work at Sassoon. I was working at a salon in Pasadena for about four years when I woke up one day and decided I was ready to make my own path. And that’s how Source Hair Studio was created. It really just started as an idea for total freedom and control. I wanted a space to bring creative and like-minded people together who enjoyed art, music, and hair. Now going on a year and a half I think the idea definitely works. I’m always amazed by the amount of support we receive from our clients and the local community. We are definitely not your average hair studio. When you come into Source Hair Studio you will not only receive the perfect haircut but gain an extensive amount of knowledge on how to achieve your style at home as well as learning about new music that is constantly coming through our door.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would have to say it’s been relatively smooth. Having a small business in LA is always a little difficult being that it is an extremely competitive city. But we are also very fortunate to have a support system of our friends and family and that we can stand behind the integrity of our work.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future pretty broad. The goal is to continue to grow Source Hair Studio. The next step I think would be to start a team. I’m constantly looking for driven and creative hair artists to work with. To be the best you have to work with the best. Then after that the goal would be to expand the space and maybe work more into the creative space. A hair studio with a few more facets.
Let’s dig a little deeper into your story. What was the hardest time you’ve had?
I started going to cosmetology school when I was living in Palm Springs California at the age of 17. Found out I loved doing hair but the school itself wasn’t for me. So I packed my bags and moved to LA to attend Paul Mitchell The School. I’ve been pretty fortunate in my career so far. I worked at three salons before opening my own and I definitely found positive and negative at all places. But what it taught me was how I wanted to run my business and mold my brand. I learned cutting corners didn’t really save you time or energy and doing something to your heart’s content pays off way more in the long run. That’s why I started the studio. I was tired of working for owners who just give you answers of “because I said so”. There’s a right and wrong reason to do something and I believe my clients deserve the right reason every time.
