Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Swarter.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started my journey into the fashion & apparel world as a wide-eyed, extremely naive high schooler- obsessed with the world of fashion. I watched fashion week like it was my religion, and 90s runway shows like it was my gospel. I grew up in Pennsylvania and knew innately there had to be more out there for me aside from seasonal depression and shoofly pie (IYKYK).
I was a much gutsier person at 18 years old than I am now- I packed my bags a month after high school graduation and headed for California.
I had a few failed projects since moving here, each of them leading to the launch of my current brand in April of 2020, Emmulus.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a very dynamic experience with a lot of let downs and a lot of milestones just the same. I’ve been fired, failed completely, told no a million times… but continued going a million and one.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a stylist and clothing curator. My brand Emmulus has seen a few different identities, but I’m known for helping popularize the fairycore trend, corsets in everyday wear, and Y2K vintage. I’m so proud of the brand and community that I’ve created.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I don’t have any one favorite memory from childhood. I was blessed with a good upbringing, and I’m constantly inspired by my girlhood as a whole.
