Meet Emily De La Torre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily De La Torre.

Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Latinx photographer and creative from Los Angeles, California.

I’ve grown up surrounding myself with art and using photography as a medium to express myself at a young age of 14. Almost ten years later and I’ve worked with brands and publications like Coach, Dazed Magazine, Stray Rats, and more.

I pride myself on being a Los Angeles native and working in the city I grew up in. So many people move to LA to work however, I love reminding myself that I’m creating in the spaces my family went when I was younger.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s definitely a few challenges I’ve faced within the industry as a POC queer photographer that also identifies as a woman.

The industry when I first entering was extremely male-dominated and there were barely any womxn muses out in the world that resonated with my personal style. A lot of models were also outing a lot of male photographers for being inappropriate and making models uncomfortable on set.

From this, I ensure to make every set/model I work with comfortable in their own skin and try to display that energy onto photos.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in photography and creative design.

I’m extremely proud of the community I’ve made within my work and all of the beautiful connections that have come from being a part of these jobs. Some stylists, makeup artists and other photographers I’ve met have become some of my closest friends and I’m so grateful that I get to work with some of them for jobs and see our ideas come into real life; it’s the best feeling in the world.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think my determination is really important to my success. If I want a specific job or to work for someone, I’ll put in the work needed and won’t stop until they know that I mean business.
