Today we’d like to introduce you to Ekaterina Behor.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Russia and for my country, the art of theater is something big. I am pretty sure that you know Stanislavski. I was lucky to see what was happening behind the curtains, on the backstage. After that, I fall in love with this parallel world: a world of magic where everything was possible.
Since my early childhood, I was interested in producing, I imagined myself creating big shows, movies, or music videos in the future. I tried myself as well in front of the camera as a model in Verona Models agency just to understand how much it takes to act in front of the camera. And then I fully switched to be behind the camera and doing preproduction. We were shooting some documentaries at my university back in Russia and also I won the commercial competition at my university. After graduating, I worked on fiction and non-fiction projects and advertisements.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Then I felt like I need more knowledge and inspiration to improve my skills. That’s why I came for my masters’ to the USA, Los Angeles to study filmmaking and producing. Here I met and I am still meeting a lot of people who motivate me to do a small step towards my dream every day. I like to be here, because if you want to stay here – you need to work a lot; it improves me, makes me just better. After some experience, I was giving a speech to Russian students about producing projects.
I wanted to study in Los Angeles but it was more difficult than I thought, when you came to a new place, you need to change your environment, you don’t have your previous friends and family anymore. It is just you on your own.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Then I started to know more people, I started to understand the culture of American filmmaking, differences of producing in Russia and here, and I got invitations to some projects, where I extended my networking, that’s how I got a lot of experience. I understand that I love doing producing, lead the director through the whole process, help him with the script, casting, tones of lists, permits and just make it happen, create this magic.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
In childhood, when I saw the first time a movie how Disney created cartoons for 5-10 years each, I was so amazed by the work of the producers of the project and the director that I started to watch all shows more carefully, after understanding how much time and effort it takes.
