Meet Ego Alpay of UNITÀ in El Segundo (Smoky Hollow District)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ego Alpay.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Unità was an idea of my partner Serkan as a solution to the cramped co-working spaces with no character or soul. He was working in one of those spaces 7000 miles away in Istanbul and called me one day with the idea of a workspace where people had inspirational elements to increase efficiency, privacy, space, constant collaboration opportunities with a simple content creation studio and a deep focus towards the creative industry. Although it sounded like a long shot, I was impressed with the idea and invited him over to LA. The city was such an amazing fit that it was a no-brainer at that point so we launched “Unità” {unity in Italian} in El Segundo in April 2017.

Has it been a smooth road?
Shared office concept is still very new and challenges are simply like any other new concept that there is not a proven solution yet. It still to this day is a learning curve for us. We are not following no one else’s path but creating our own which comes with its risks and trying anything new is not always going to be successful. There are of course bumps here and there but not any major obstacles to scare us from growing this business.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Unità is a shared office space for the creative industry. From wine to 3D printer, content studio to meeting rooms we offer a quaint space with amenities that are exclusive to the creative industry.

We are proud to create a family. I enjoy meals, laughter, and experiences with our members. I am proud to call this a big family. We care. The difference between us and everyone else is that we care. Similar size shared offices have 3 times the amount of members with no soul. It is just brick and mortar. We are all about the experience.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is an amazing place to start anything. It is vibrant and not saturated like most other. It is costly therefore the risk is higher but the return is the same. I recommend starting in LA. It is amazing weather and more and more people are moving to this exceptional climate with dreams ready to start their own businesses. They all need an office…
