Today we’d like to introduce you to Eden Neville.
Eden, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been writing songs since I was ten years old. After graduating from SUNY Purchase College in the Studio Composition Conservatory, I lived in NYC for three years. While I was in NY, I began writing with other people and for other artists. An accomplishment I had in NY was entering a contest for The Ellen Show. It was her Skybox contest, you had to enter a video explaining why you should be flown out to be on her show. I wrote a song for it, got my roommates to perform it with me, and two weeks later, I got called by Ellen herself, telling me that we won and we would be on her show! I moved to LA two years ago to pursue pop writing. Since living here, I’ve done a lot of co-writing sessions, and I’ve had several artists release songs I’ve co-written. An accomplishment I’ve had in LA was getting accepted into the 2019 ASCAP Harold Adamson Songwriters Workshop. The producer I was paired with and I won that year’s competition with our song Blessed. Although I still love writing for other people, I recently had a couple of song concepts that felt like they should be my own.
My first release is coming out on October 22nd, a song called Video Games. I had the idea for the song a year ago after seeing those silly videos on Tiktok, where girls are trying to get their boyfriends’ attention while they play video games. It seemed like a great silly concept to play into with a song. I even had the music video idea before the song was written, a similar concept to those videos, except there would be crazy things happening behind the boyfriend that he wouldn’t notice. Ironically, I actually love video games and I’ve been playing my whole life! During Quarantine, I started streaming video games on Twitch, something I’ve been told to do for a long time (twitch name is EdyBot.) So far, it’s been an amazing experience, I recently hit 2,000 followers and my average viewers are growing. After seeing how my streaming channel has been successful because I just went for it, it made me realize that I shouldn’t be so much of a perfectionist with my art project and just do it! I’m excited about my first song release, I have a music video that my brother is directing coming out before Halloween, and I have another song ready to be released after that.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle for me has been to actually commit to doing things. I know I’m not the only person who has a bunch of creative ideas and never finds the “perfect time” to do them. I think this industry comes with a lot of no’s and a lot of good news that sometimes doesn’t pan out to anything. It’s easy to be worried about how your project will do or if it will be exactly how you want it, but lately, I’ve decided that change that mindset. I’ve been a server for years, and it’s definitely been a struggle balancing that, my streaming, and making time for my music.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I want my art project to be fun! Before this release, I wrote a lot of indie folk music, and I’m excited to start releasing upbeat pop songs. With every song I want to release, I usually brainstorm a music video. I don’t want the story to just end with the lyrics, I’d love for every song to have a full experience.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My ability to be relatable and genuine. I also love to make people laugh and not take myself so seriously.
