Meet Dr. LaShonda Jackson Dean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. LaShonda Jackson Dean.

Hi Dr. LaShonda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Even as a child, I always have had an entrepreneurial spirit! I always wanted to do my own thing as well as have my own thing. I started with selling penny candy to my friends in grade school and getting my first job at 15 while I was supposed to be on vacation. As a young adult, I sold Avon, Mary Kay, Excel Phone Service, Insurance, and was a Realtor and a Notary. I made and sold my own soap and lotion products. I was a fashion model; I wrote fashion articles and I sold fashions in my own boutique. My boutique Elegant Expressions 1 was a global phenomenon! I dressed men and women all over the world to include overseas, United Kingdom, and Japan. This same entrepreneur spirit led me to become an Authorprenuer! I am a Multiple National and International Best Seller! I have (7) seven published books, (5) four collaborations, and (1) one anthology, where I am the primary author. I offer opportunities for others to collaborate with me on literary projects.

I also have my own TV Network called the JDI Multi-Media Network, I also have (2) TV Talk Shows, Just So You Know Moment With A Twist TV Talk Show and Just So you Know Moment With Dr. LaShonda Jackson-Dean. Just So You Know Moment with a Twist TV Talk Show is a platform where I showcase other entrepreneurs, business owners, and their products. Just So You Know Moment with Dr. LaShonda Jackson-Dean is a platform offering educational, informational, and inspirational episodes. I am an adjunct University Professor that teaches Business and Leadership courses. I am a sought out themed and empowerment speaker. I also coach aspiring authors on how to become published bestseller authors. I am a wife and a mother. I am a daughter that cares for her aging parents with the utmost love and respect.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, the road was rocky and unpaved for thousands of miles but mostly due to my own mindset. I have always been great in the business aspect but beyond that I found myself focusing on the wrong things. Those things bordered around my infatuation about being liked and supported. I fell for all of the posts of other women stating how much they support other women. I was bamboozled by the comments that when one of us wins, all of us win (which was not the case). I discovered that regardless of how much I supported everyone else, they conveniently failed to return the same reciprocity. I would post for days and not receive any likes or support. The constant curiosities of why this type of support worked for others but not for me was having a debilitating effect on my mental state. I was running myself raggedy trying to show up for everyone but when it came to me, I was met with questions and excuses. I also place blame on these unfair and discriminating factors in the social media algorithms. But I digress. I had to come to the realization that these thoughts were becoming consuming and were doing nothing for the advance of my mission.

To alleviate the down spiraling effects of feeling unsupported, I had to Level Up Through Mindfulness! I had to do a complete mindset detox that caused a PIVOT in my marketing approach. I began to pay less attention to what people said and more to what they did. I also broaden my network. Like myself, I am sure there are several entrepreneurs who do not receive constant support from their family and friends. I had to realize I didn’t have to chase anyone down because my support and clients are already assigned to me, without geographical boundaries. I had to recognize that I was my biggest and most important FAN of ME!! When I changed my mindset, I changed my life, my business, and my money. I learned a better management approach for those with public support challenges but were in my inbox, were dealing with personal problems that had nothing to do with me. I am a firm believer of the PIVOT to Level Up Through Mindfulness.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and CEO of Jackson-Dean Investments which is the umbrella company for our sub-companies of JDI Multi-Media Network, Jackson-Dean Investments Publishing, Jackson-Dean Professional Services, and Greatness Pursued. I am extremely proud of every aspect of my company of 20 years. JDI Multi-Media Network is my Mass Media Broadcasting Company that houses our Tv Network aligning with Jackson-Dean Investments Publishing. Jackson-Dean Investments Publishing is a full-service book, literature, video documentary, music, and educational publishing company. Jackson-Dean Professional Service offers coaching services in business, authorship, and life challenges. I am the founder of Greatness Pursued Non-Profit Organization, where we offer services to women transitioning from military life to civilian life with military sexual trauma challenges. Our non-profit offers coaching, employment placement, computer training, housing, and benefits assistance, We are extremely proud of our company and sub-companies because our main focus is to assist others in becoming the best version of themselves.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My most favorite childhood memory is when my father taught me how to perform a Tune-Up Service on a car. My parents were business owners as well and prepared me well for the world. My father lived by and taught me his “Break Your Plate Method”. He told me LaShonda, learn yourself and learn things for yourself. If you do this, you will always be able to take care of yourself. If at any time you find yourself in a situation where you are undervalued and of no benefit for you (if you are prepared), you can break your plate, get up, and leave. You don’t have to subject yourself to things and people who only take from you. Get it for yourself. But also be willing to help others along the way.
