Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Garcia.
From a very early age she’s had her hands in hair, starting with her Barbies and dolls. “I eventually graduated to styling my sisters’ hair and then playing with my own color in high school. I’ve always had a passion for hair, I’m lucky I was able to make it my profession.”
Below you’ll find edited excerpts from our interview with Ariana:
Ariana, what’s been the most challenging part of your journey as a hairstylist?
It’s definitely not easy building a clientele, especially when you’re starting out. My friends and family are my biggest supporters. From the beginning I’ve set goals for the work I put out there. I’m always looking to better myself and my work. I’ve been doing hair for 8 years now, but I would say I am the most proud of what my clients are walking around with now, they are my walking billboards. I put in so much time with each individual client and I think that certainly shows in their hair.
Sure, but can you give us more details. What in particular was most challenging?
I suppose the biggest/ scariest thing I had to do was to move myself to downtown LA. I grew up where LA County and Orange County meet. It’s very suburban, there isn’t too much diversity. I worked for the better part of 5 years in this area. I left all this behind, all the business and clientele I had built up. A year and half ago was when I came downtown and haven’t looked back since. It’s been the best decision I’ve made so far. My reason for moving was to surround myself with like-minded individuals, it just different here. I’m surrounded by such creative and talented individuals.
Very cool – glad you made it to DTLA – we think it was definitely the right move. So what’s next?
Within the next few years I hope to build myself (my business) up to be bicoastal. I love big cities, it’s where I get a lot of my inspiration from. In bigger cities you tend to have people that show their personality through their clothes and hair. They really value the way they present themselves to the world, these people inspire me to keep up with hair trends and what’s going to be next.
Pricing:
- Color pricing varies quite a bit, it all depends on a client’s starting point and where they want to go with their color. My most requested service is Balayage (hand painted highlights) Balayage, for the highlights alone can range between $165+ to $200+. If a client needs a base break or a base touch up that starts at $85+. Styling after color is $35-$55
