Meet Doren and Emily Sorell of Endless Lens Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doren and Emily Sorell.

Hi Doren and Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Been into photography since high school, many, many years ago, but about twelve years ago became very interested in combining the acting training we received and then taught and applying it to taking photographs of people. It garnered making others be more relaxed, open, expressive, and engaged, as opposed to awkward, closed off, and shy. Using those techniques, we branched out to events, product and food photography, weddings, and more. The idea of connecting with our subjects — be it the person in front of our lenses, or the client behind the product/event we were shooting — was and is of utmost import. The goal for us is to capture an authentic moment in time; freezing an emotion, a thought, a meaning in a single image. Connecting to our clients is the way to do it, human to human. Because at the end of it all, we as spectators are drawn to a photograph because it is telling a story; it’s giving us its meaning, its feelings, its journey. And the only way to draw that out is to connect with the people that hire us. Then we use our experience and skills to design the shot, sculpting it with light and shadow, color and hue, composition and flow. It’s an endless journey, these human moments, and we have the capacity and love to capture a moment of it in time.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Nothing ever is, right? Especially with Covid, as we all experienced. But we continue because of the love of it, and that people still want to capture moments in their lives. Businesses still need to sell the products. So, we continue helping them achieve both.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Endless Lens Photography?
We want people to know that we love working with people. The challenge of taking what a client envisions and turning it into a reality is what keeps us pumping along. We specialize in events and products but are hired a lot for portraiture, as well as actor headshots. We believe what sets us apart is our down-to-earth and personal approach: we want to connect with our clients. When we are open and connected to our clients, it’s as if they become a temporary family, and the care we feel, that they feel, that connection, drives us to capture the best photographs we can. As an example, we worked with a wonderful graphic design company in Pasadena a few times and were able to help them fulfill some of their client’s visions; one was for product advertisements for a very well-known company; a few for corporate portraits; and we had a great shoot for a non-for-profit organization that helps underprivileged children and young adults. Knowing that we can help a wide range like this brings us joy.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Caring for what our clients. The magic of literally making a photograph and telling a story for a single image. And connecting with the people we work with.
