Meet Donna M. Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna M. Thomas.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Donna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Essentially, my earliest memories were of having expanded states of consciousness. Later memories include a difficult family life, being molested many times, being placed in an orphanage, and, in many ways, raising myself.

I stumbled onto the path of personal development almost 40 years ago. I’ve been intuitive and an empath my entire life. I started working with people roughly 30 years ago because I saw suffering around me. My entire adult life I’ve heard the same question over and over, “How is it that with all that has happened to you, you’re happy and healthy? And can you teach me?!”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If you’re asking about my road to do what I do, the saying, “grist for the mill” is applicable. Everything that happened in my childhood, and the later challenges I experienced as a result of the early trauma, were training for what I do now. I half jest about having a Ph.D. in life. Everything I’ve experienced has been fantastic training in understanding the human condition, and developing strategies to successfully navigate life. Successfully, as in feeling one is on a good path, and feeling fulfilled and even happy.

The path of “personal mastery” definitely isn’t for the faint of heart! I define personal mastery as: coming to terms with one’s history, understanding and being able to work with fear (the core of most suffering), developing EQ (emotional intelligence), mindfulness/spiritual practices, and putting to practice what one knows works.

Anyone who is on the path [of personal mastery] knows that this process never ends. One simply gets to deeper and deeper levels of understanding and personal practice.

There will always be opportunities and challenges to deepen, expand, and broaden awareness. Once one expects this and doesn’t keep looking to get “there” (free of challenge), a sense of inner peace and trust settles in. It’s not that issues don’t come up, because they do. Life happens! But with this type of awareness, the time spent in fear, anger, frustration, sadness, etc. becomes much, much, much shorter.

In building my business, I can point to a few things: 1) Charging people for my services – it was very difficult for me to do that at first. It seemed unfair to charge people who are suffering in some way; which is why I continued to work another job. Over time, I realized service is service. There are many products and people who help others. So, I figured it I may as well, too. 2) Leaving ego out the door – there are plenty of speakers and coaches whose ego enter the room first. Ego is based in fear. Confidence is based on experience. I believe it’s my knowledge of how to recognize and work with fear, and my commitment to love and personal empowerment, that helps people most. I have built confidence over the years of living and working this way this way. 3) Integrity – this is closely related to #2. My confidence has been built from living a life as best as I can true to my ideals; and that’s not always easy! Life constantly tests us! I am not perfect at it, even with all the years I’ve been at it! But, my commitment to this is quite ardent, perhaps one might say fervent.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I do Mystic Readings (for personal and groups), Empowerment Coaching, and I lead Mastery Groups.

My commitment to my work is to bring forth wisdom that transcends personality, ego, and opinion so people can more easily access an expanded perspective about their personal, spiritual, and earthly concerns. I find that this expanded perspective can change everything! It’s my sincere hope that this work helps to enhance your life in ways that are most meaningful to you!

What were you like growing up?
Hmmmm, well, I was an unusual child.

My earliest memories are of having expanded states of consciousness.

I was extremely sensitive and empathic.

I was quite resilient.

I loved people and was very social.

I looked for the good in situations and people.

I didn’t understand meanness.

This will give you a snapshot into me as a child:

For reasons I won’t go into now, at the age of 9, I was placed in an orphanage for a time. I wasn’t treated well by some of the other girls, but I figured while I was there I should have fun whenever I could and to find the good. I knew my dad would come pick me up soon, while the babies in the nursery wouldn’t have that luxury. From my perspective, they weren’t getting the love they needed. So, at age 9, I learned compassion. I went into the nursery each day and held the babies.

As far as interests go: I was a competitive swimmer, loved movies ever since I saw my first (Mary Poppins), I loved acting but hated the business, so I quit. Loved music. I sung in choir all through high school I was (not a well-known) musician and record producer in my 20’s and into my 30’s. I’m still a sing as a Temple Singer at Self Realization Fellowship.
