Meet Donna Carollo of Donna M. Carollo, LMFT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Carollo.

Hi Donna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a psychotherapist in private practice in Orange County. In my younger years, I felt lucky, happy and fulfilled being a stay-at-home wife and mother. But as I turned age 50, my family needed me less, and I needed more….the volunteering, the tennis, and the girlfriend lunches – while fun, lacked a deeper purpose for me. So I went back to school, jumped through the many hoops to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. Now, I have a life that is as varied and purposeful as I could have imagined…

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lots of requirements…besides the minimum Masters degree, there is 3,600 hours of supervised experience required. If you are lucky, you can find a paid internship. I worked at a near-by in-patient treatment center, and although I was not paid, I was able to identify and work with a wide variety of clients/diagnoses.

As you know, we’re big fans of Donna M. Carollo, LMFT. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Happy married for over 40 years, mother and grandmother….I love helping couples using John Gottman principles. I would say I’m very direct – always a Jersey girl, and I can easily see dysfunctional patterns that hurt couples and individuals.
