Following a successful career as an actress and model, Dionne knew she was on to something big when she started creating her own custom lash extensions for herself and a few close friends. What started as a passion project has blossomed into a cultural phenomenon that changed the beauty industry for good.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You know, it has not been a smooth road for me in my business. I make it look easy. With many Potential and existing lash artists not know how hard I work. However, That’s perspective. There have been challenges from hiring the right employees, to health issues, to funding for expansion.

Owning your business is never smooth no matter what people will tell you. There are so many struggles and challenges that arise regularly. It’s just the nature of the business.

One constant challenge are working with suppliers/vendors that will create my vision of product label or box design. They try to inject their own suggestions that may make it easier for them to produce but I always have to stay firm and make them do it my way. In the end, it’s my brand/product that has to represent me my brand and my business.

Another challenge, for example, is finding quality talented lash artists that I can hire that I can develop into an asset for me and my business. Most of the time, people have their own Ideas of working for me a short time and try to learn everything from me and then try to venture out on their own. Most if not all that have tried this rout end up failing and quitting the business all together.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the D’Lashes By Dionne Phillips Inc. story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m the founder and owner of D’Lashes Luxury eyelash extension spa/studio located in Beverly Hills, CA. I specialize in eyelash extensions & skincare. I’m known for being the Authority in Eyelash Extensions as well as being known for being Hollywood’s A-list secret Beauty weapon. I have been a part of so many iconic faces on the red carpet as well as Hollywood A-listers look on camera.

I’m very proud of myself for having the drive, the patience and work ethic to build a loyal customer base and sustaining momentum on a very specific, as well as important beauty service for over 20 years. This has allowed me to add my own line of products that I sell in my Spa/Studio and online through my website as well. There are so many that have tried to do what I do and give up after a short time. They don’t understand how much goes into running a business. And when they find out that it’s “work” they give up.

I feel what sets me apart from others is that through my years of experience, knowledge, and my private lash spa that I can give my customer a very relaxing, tranquil and rejuvenated beauty experience where they will leave with energy and beautiful Lashes that give them the confidence, attract attention and be complimented on how great they look and feel no matter if they are going to a special event, business meeting or just a night out with friends or on a date.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The role of luck! Is subjective I feel. I believe in making your own luck. Be it consciously or subconsciously. You make your own luck! I’ve always known that I would have some sort of success In beauty and in whatever I chose as a young kid. I may not been around many super successful people growing up except for my mom. She had an amazing career as a civil rights investigator for the state of Ohio for over 40 years. I’m so proud of my mother for her strength and for making her luck during her career as an investigator. It was something she wanted to do. Which has inspired me to “Create” my own luck.
