Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Gregory.
Hi Deborah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Looking back on my career path, it seems that my strengths in drawing and playfulness of heart are the attributes that led me to my current position in the design world. What sustains me now is the ever-evolving aspect of the types of projects, interesting new clients, and the unique challenges of running a boutique design business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
At a certain point in my career, I had spent many years working on large-scale interior projects: hotels and theme parks! I wanted to branch out on my own to offer unique design solutions toward more tangible project scales. The challenge in large projects is to remain focused and gratified in a sometimes 5-year design and construction process; the challenge in the smaller projects is to find the funding that allows realization of these unique ideas!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Digbar Interiors & Architecture?
Our unique offering as a boutique design studio is that we are a partnership of myself, an interior designer and my husband, a licensed architect. Some projects only need a little bit of architecture and some a bit of interior design so we adjust according to the scope. When we work on residential design projects, I always make sure the furniture layout works before we lock in the architecture! I would say that’s our unique offering and checks-and-balances process: having both minds on every project in some manner, in order to address the various range of functions and careful consideration of end-user needs.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We have the same approach to all projects: one of exploration and customization. Every project is so nuanced that we seek client engagement throughout the entire process. Construction is costly so the better we are at listening and communicating our ideas, the greater the outcome of the project.
