Meet Dario Forzato

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dario Forzato.

Dario, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started playing guitar back in Milan, Italy which is where I am from when I was about seven years old – I know I took it from far away, I’m going to be brief, I promise! – and that led me to start performing and touring professionally in Italy and Europe when I was about 18. I then moved to Los Angeles because I was looking for a new challenge and I wanted to confront myself with a much bigger and more competitive reality. As soon as I moved to LA, I started performing with various indie artists, singer-songwriters and focused a lot of energy into my band at the time called Rapscallions. After five years, we broke up – we are technically on hiatus, but you know musicians – and I started touring nationally with singer-songwriter Kathryn Dean.

At the same time, I began moving towards my next career goal which was composing music for film and TV. Fast-forward a few years and that’s what I am doing full-time now. I got the chance of working on a variety of independent films, TV, commercials and video games. I am really enjoying this new stage of my career since I always felt I was giving the best of me when I was writing and recording music. Don’t get me wrong: I had so much fun performing on so many different stages – from the smelly dive bar to rock festivals with 100,000 people – but aging made me settle down a bit.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was not a smooth road. Some things went smoother than other of course, but I would say that – being this line of work really competitive – I really had to step up my game and make my mistakes to be able to learn and grow. I definitely learned more from my mistakes than from my successes, especially in my first few years in LA.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I compose music for visual media – from film to TV, documentaries, commercials and video games – under my own name but also have a little company called Evoq Music, where I collaborate with other talented composers and lyricists to provide custom music to a variety of clients. We have been lucky to work on many projects for FOX, BBC, National Geographic, CBS, and more. During this pandemic we also got the chance of providing custom music for a pretty cool podcast by The Wondery Podcast that will be released soon, so we don’t just do visual media now. I am proud of the super-talented writers I get to work with almost every day and I think what sets us apart is that we deliver consistent top quality “products” (I hate this word when talking about music!) very quickly and we can adapt to change very easily.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the weather here in LA and the relaxed attitude. I grew up in Milan which is a lot like New York, so I love the new pace, even though sometimes it gets a little too slow. After being here in LA and on west side for about ten years, I kind of miss the European vibe of going out for a walk and meet people. Everything is so spread out. But having great hikes in the city makes up for it!
