Today we’d like to introduce you to Dante Alba.
Hi Dante, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came to Los Angeles, CA from México chasing the American Dream when I was 18 years old. I started working as a background actor not an extra, I like better the term “super” though, for a long list of tv shows and films. After that, I was lucky to get a commercial agent at Momentum Talent Agency who got me auditions for companies like Pepsi, Jack in the Box, HP, and Coca-Cola.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all. It has been rough as hell. After all, it’s the City of Angels. You know, there are good angels, the ones who watches over you along the way, and then there’s the bad angels, the ones who have fallen out of the sky, the demons disguised as “angels” who won’t care for you, all they do is harm. Nevertheless, we must learn to navigate through the hell on earth and stay away from those kind of people at all times, always choosing to surround ourselves with goodness in our lives ‘cause trust me the devil is out to get you, and if you let it influence you, it’ll only make your journey rougher.
Living in LA is the ultimate struggle. For a non-native like me, you’ve got to learn a whole new language and work in whatever job is available.
I attended college so I could learn English. After that, I started focusing on my major by taking communication-related classes. I became unsatisfied when I realized how different my major was from my field back in my country, so I decided to test out classes of my interest and after having a hard time acquiring the knowledge, the only classes I aced were my acting and music classes.
As for work, I’ve done all kinds of jobs. From selling hot pizzas at pizza hut in south-central to working the night shift making “fresh” subway sandwiches in Beverly Hills. I’ve sold women’s clothes in downtown LA from 3 in the AM, I’ve done photography and I love doing it still. I’ve worked as a food delivery guy and lift driver around the city. Lastly, I decided to quick my job at a Call Center and work again as a photographer so I could focus on my acting and music career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, an actor and musician mainly. As an actor, I’ve been fortunate to be working on set with James Franco, Demi Lovato, Kid Ink, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Bon Jovi, and my biggest idol Lady Gaga.
What I’m most proud of is that I’ve had the chance to be on set working with people that I have admired my entire life.
Well, I would say what sets me apart from others is first and for most of my ethnicity, many would say it’s a weakness but I think that’s what makes me unique, then my desire to go further in life.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my Family and Friends ‘cause their my Fam.
