Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Sabolch.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I moved to Karlskrona, Sweden (from LA) a few years back and found the school Hyper Island. I studied Digital Media there and was introduced to motion graphics. Hyper Island is a very “do-it-yourself” kind of school so, as I was teaching myself motion graphics I found an internship at an agency in Amsterdam and absorbed everything I could while I was there for about eight months. From there, I moved back to LA for a bit where I took a stab at freelancing and continued to do so for a couple years. During my freelancing years I got really in to Cinema 4D and Octane; working in 3D is my favorite thing to do! I’m now full-time at Hook Studios and I love it!
Please tell us about your art.
I create funky animations and images using Cinema 4D and Octane. It’s hard to put in to words what it is exactly I make; I like shiny, squishy, abstract things so, it looks like that’s been reflected through my work.
A few people have told me my work gives them “vaporwave vibes” so, there’s a bit of that in there too, I guess. I create these things because it’s fun for me and I love the way my art looks and feels. There’s a type of satisfaction you get when you watch a perfect loop of something squishy! Or, when you stumble upon a scene someone has created and you think about how that person even came up with that idea and/or their process. I love it!
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
If you have the money, join a co-working space with a vibe you like. When I was in Gothenburg, Sweden I joined one called Hey It’s Enrico Pallazzo. The people there were so welcoming and inspiring. I loved being around them. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals that you can collaborate with (or just chill with) is awesome.
Also, if you’re in the LA area, there’s a lot of events you can attend to network or make new friends. Creative Mornings is a good example of that. It’s a talk hosted once a month (I think) in the morning; plus, free breakfast!
