Meet Daniela Lugo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Lugo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been interested in everything surrounding the performing arts since I was eight. I still remember when I watched the Phantom of the Opera for the very first time and then, immediately afterwards, I set “Acting” for the purpose of my life. So I started to take dancing, singing and acting classes in many studios in order to make a career out of this someday.

In 2016 I had one of the greatest moments of my life as part of Alfonso Cuarón’s movie “ROMA”. It was then when I felt that it might be of interest for myself to pivot to the film industry as an actress.

I moved to New York City after High School on my own to pursue my acting career. I went to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway and Stella Adler for training.

At the very beginning, it was unexpectedly hard for me to be far away from my home country (México). My family and friends. But I am very grateful now given how much I’ve grown since back then as an artist as well as a human being. I have worked and trained with extremely talented people over the course of my life. Specially during that time. And on top of that, I performed in the “Carnegie Hall” (New York City), which is one of the biggest and most important venues in the whole world.

After all that and after the pandemic happened, I moved to Los Angeles in 2021, which I am now blessed, lucky and thankful enough to consider my second home. So far the City of Stars is giving me a lot of opportunities to keep growing both personally and professionally as an actress for film and TV.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any other career, it has its ups and downs. But this one can be more like a roller coaster than many others for sure. I was in NYC having the time of my life when COVID happened. That was bad. I got really depressed because I felt I made the wrong decisions and wasted my whole life in this. Everything was paused! But then during the pandemic, I kind of reinvented myself embraced zoom lessons and used the opportunity that havoc gave us everybody to just learn more about myself and get to know me better, which is mandatory for good acting anyways.

2020 was indeed the year when I feel I grew the most as an actress. I guess by trying to keep acting alive in such a chaotic context, we all became stronger artists.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional actress and producer. I have worked in many projects like “The Sweetest Vacation”, “Cadet”, “Roma”, “Clouds in the Sun”, among others. I am also producing a feature film with one of my friends, the name is “The Wifi Date”.

I try to tell true “Latino Stories” through my work. I am working in two short films that I will produce in Latin America about Latin American Culture. I want my community to always feel represented throughout my work. I will try my best to put my name out there and make my people proud.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
So in 2006 High School Musical (the movie) was released. Interestingly enough, I still remember myself doing concerts at home for my parents and their friends. And it was all about High School Musical. I would prepare the set, the lights, and the sound in the best way that a seven years old kid could do. My parents and some friends of the family were the audience, and then me and my friends were the cast.

I remember I was feeling myself very identified and related to one of the characters (Sharpay Evans, played by Ashley Tisdale) given that she was very focused on her acting career as well. She was doing in the fictional world what I wanted to do in the real world in the future.
