Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Garcia.
Daniel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was introduced to the skateboard culture through a friend, in my high school days. Immediately stoked, I began documenting people through skateboarding. As kids, we watched skate videos by Spike Jonze; Blind Video Days and Lakia Fully Flared, on repeat. Amped, we’d go out and rip the streets of L.A. looking for skate spots to get some footy (footage). The school was out and the streets were our playground. One year, I saved up my Christmas money and bought myself an HD Camcorder. After filming skateboarding throughout high school I began to pursue other subjects. One day, I borrowed a Canon T2i. That was the day I was introduced and welcomed into the intricacies of a camera. I picked up that camera in 2006 and I’ve kept a camera by my side since. My passion for videography has allowed me to travel, meet new people, and work with incredible clients such as Jack Daniel’s, Mercedes Benz, and Arclight.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I didn’t know where to start. I didn’t choose the traditional route of attending film school. The amount of time I spent educating myself was a struggle. But I am proud to say that I am fully self-taught.
Please tell us about your business.
Through Film Danz I plan on documenting people and sharing their stories. I began by creating videos. Now, I’m diving more into photography. I’m taken by the idea of capturing a slice of life. With so many new builds in progress, Los Angeles is going through a monumental structural change. I am fascinated by this changing city and its people in it.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m currently working with an artist to direct a music video. I’m also working on developing a web series that I plan on releasing this summer. Big things coming, I’m stoked!
