Meet Curtisha Thomas of Gray Segments and The Body Butters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curtisha Thomas.

Curtisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Depending on how you meet me you would think I was a celebrity chef, brand manager, entrepreneur, and/or producer and you would be correct but that not how it started. I never sought out to be an entrepreneur. I come from the corporate world. I have been working since I was 14. My previous work history includes Hilton, Safeco Field, Verizon, Microsoft, and Thornton Tomasetti. The last company I worked for was Unitas Global which had me completely spoiled. It was only a block from my house, The perks were amazing; I had a company credit card, free lunch, flat management (a mentor not a manager), was promoted multiple times and I really got to see the ins and outs of how to build a start-up business. I got laid off in September of 2014. After having a job like that making the most money I ever had, I knew it would be next to impossible to find another one so I started my Gray Segments in hopes to help Black entertainers with artist development. My company helped with some of the biggest names in Black entertainment such as Tiffany Haddish, Aida Rodriguez, Ryan Davis, Kevin Fredericks, Sinbad, Tony Baker, etc.

Once the pandemic shut Hollywood down, I was able to concentrate on my pet project; The Body Butters. I had consulted for five skincare companies and when none of them would listen to my business development ideas I decided to take my own advice, but I had to figure out a niche. We are the first and only skincare company where you can mix and match scents to make new scents. We have generated over $250K+ from a home workshop in two years and are currently looking for a warehouse now.

After the success of The Body Butters, I have decided to focus on my own projects and building out my personal brands as an entrepreneur, chef, and apps.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success hasn’t been a smooth one. I have lost a lot of “friends” in the process of not being as available as I used to be. Success is heavy and not for the faint-hearted. Everyone will not be happy for you and your circle will change from people who need you to people you need. I recommend getting a mentor, therapist, best friend that holds you accountable and a village to pour into you! MENTAL HEALTH IS REAL!

Gray Segments My approach to streamling and protecting value for myself and my clients is what sets me apart. I am completely hands-on when it comes to brand launches, strategic rebranding, naming, messaging platforms, identity systems and repositioning efforts.

The Body Butters
We are the first and only skincare company where you can mix and match scents to make new scents. Our goal is to turn your home bathroom into a Spa.

Any big plans?
I am looking forward to pouring into myself the way I have poured into my clients over the years. I have 110 ideas I want to build out just like The Body Butters and Gray Segments. This is a numbers game to say the least. Most people tell you to focus on one thing but I know in my heart I am sitting on a billion-dollar brain.
