Meet Culver City Photographer: Danny De Marcos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny De Marcos.

Danny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A friend convinced me to take a photo class in college and I hated it. I bought a camera and lens just for that. After about a year I saw my camera gathering dust and felt bad so I picked it up and hit the streets. Everything after that just kind of fell into place on its own. It’s been 7 years of nothing but love for this art form.

Has it been a smooth road?
Three years in I had no inspiration whatsoever. I didn’t pick up my camera and honestly thought that was it. Other than that it’s been smooth sailing.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
When one of my photographs was used in Rolling Stone Mexico. That was something I was not expecting.

Every story has ups and downs. What were some of the downs others might not be aware of?
Other than the occasional creative block I think it was when my car was broken into and my camera and favorite lens were stolen. I had to back to using an older camera.

Is there something we can do as a city to improve the outlook for professionals like you?
I feel like LA is both good and bad. There is A LOT of great photographers ( competition ) but there is also a ton of work to go around. If you have the dedication and talent I believe anyone can make it anywhere.
