Meet Coloma Muro of Venice, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Coloma Muro

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a Licensed Psychologist and Neuroscientist, originally from Barcelona. My professional experience ranges from working in Biomedical Research, at Hospitals, and in Corporate. I have always been driven to contribute to collective healing; ever since I was a child I advocated for several causes concerning human and animal rights, sustainability and social justice. After years of clinical practice I have just written a book that is a compilation of the teachings I’ve found to be helpful for my clients to heal from past trauma. Additionally, I just funded a non-profit with the vision of restoring equity globally.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is nothing in life that comes easy yet at the same time there is nothing impossible. We all have the power to draw our own path. We are the creators of our lives, and so no matter the obstacles, we can make the choices that are in alignment with what we envision for ourselves.
Being a woman immigrant in the US has been challenging as I have had to continuously pay for my legal status here. It is still a battle, as all my earnings go toward paying attorney fees and other visa-related stuff. But I am not giving up, it has been a lot of sacrifice to make it to this country, being away from my family and home land, for me to not face the difficulties with grace. Everything is an opportunity to become more resilient, learn, and grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Psychologist and Neuroscientist. However, I have always been involved in Philanthropic causes and participated in several non-profit organizations. Today I am here to share the joy that it has been to publish my first book “Raw and Unmasked: Embodying Intimacy, Love, and Pleasure”. The book brings awareness to what growing up in a hypermasculine society has caused in women’s bodies and how our ability to experience pleasure has been hindered in the quest for meeting standards set by a patriarchal and capitalist context. By outsourcing our value and safety, we no longer embody our inherent worth and trade our authenticity for approval. This sets us up for constant dissatisfaction and anxiety as we cannot control our environment. In other words, in a society that prioritizes productivity and performance over well-being and deep connection, we often find ourselves disconnected from our hearts and struggling to define our true selves. Women, influenced by the feminist waves that have brought many positive changes over the years, often feel the weight of societal expectations, leading to burnout, exhaustion, and unsustainable living. The constant juggle of proving equality while prioritizing everyone else’s needs has led to a neglect of the unique potency of the feminine.

The feminine essence is an untamable force that resides within us and allows us to receive life as it is. However, relaxing into our sensations and surrendering to our nature is challenging in an individualistic social structure. The pace at which our environment moves doesn’t allow us to take in the present. We go from one thing to the next without deeply integrating the teachings of every moment. We get caught up in cycles of doing or having more without realizing that if we do not cultivate the capacity to hold what we create, it will vanish in front of our eyes. In other words, we will self-sabotage the greatness in our lives until we reprogram our nervous system.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents and brother deserve the most credit above anybody else. They have been the main source of support, encouragement, gentleness, and trust. Their love has given me strength to keep going. My dog Aloha, that resides with them in Spain, has also been in my heart throughout my years spent in the US and in my accomplishments. I have also surrounded myself by people that inspired me to access my highest potential. My friends and community have also definitely been crucial for my personal and therefore professional development.
