Today we’d like to introduce you to Coleman Morris.
Hi Coleman, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I got my start assisting in hair salons when I was in high school. I graduated and went to beauty school. Upon graduating, I moved to Chicago and trained with one of the top Salons there, then moved to Los Angeles, started assisting on set, and got picked up to work on fashion shoots, film and TV, and celebs for red carpet events.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was a struggle when I moved to Los Angeles. I did not know anyone. I literally had to build my network from the ground up. Making no money and navigating it all with no contacts. Just skill and a dream.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Hair Stylist. I specialize in styling hair for film, TV, fashion, and red carpet. Some of my achievements that I am proud of are having my work in Vogue Magazine and all over billboards from LA to Time Square to the side of busses in Europe. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to create big, sexy, fun hair…
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think you need to find a person that you admire their work and career and use them as your blueprint and NorthStar. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask if they need an assistant. What worked for me is never turning down a job, no matter what the pay. You never know who you are going to be working with.
