Today we’d like to introduce you to Clinton “HeadAche” Walker III.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Clinton. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
High school 2004, I became interested in music from an artist’s perspective as well as an audio recording. Carried that passion with me through high school, into my first year of college (Columbia College Chicago) 2006, where I would later drop out (one year later) to pursue my own version of college in a real-world sense. Uphill battles to not only understand the industry I was entering into but how to surpass that entry-level; to create a new stage. Quit two jobs in 2008/09, and started a studio with my brother Tapez, which only stayed open for four months, in which that 4-month time span, I grew my love for being in the studio so much so, I lived there. Later, I would meet Chris “Classick” Innumerable at his Dad’s house (original Classick Studios).
Classick Studios later moved to a house on Berenice Ave. where a handful of super creatives, and friends alike, would fester their innate talents. Switched gears from being a part-time artist, part-time engineer, to full-time engineer. That led me to grow my client base exponentially over the next. Three to six years, in which we moved a 3rd time to the current location of Classick Studios; housed in a loft building. My brother Jeff Jackson would move to LA, shortly after, inspiring me to think and dream beyond the control surface I could see in front of me.
I received a call in 2016 to move to LA and drive for a weed delivery company an old client of mine had started. I knew this call wasn’t about delivering weed, more than it was God/The Universe conspiring to deliver me to my ultimate fate/destination; LA. I moved to LA and quickly acclimated to the grind that was necessary to prosper in a city filled with dead dreams. My guardian angel, my brother Jeff Jackson, would be there every step of the way, showing me the pitfalls, and potholes to avoid; like a GPS app that hasn’t been discovered yet, Jeff guided me in the right direction to quickly catapult myself into the “big leagues” of studio sessions and big label clients. It was the phone call I received from Jeff, where he alley-ooped me my first Major Label gig, working with an artist at Republic Records.
I like to say: “It’s not just WHO you know that gets you in the door, but WHAT you know, and the GRIND you have, that KEEPS you there”.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t have asked for a smooth road; you learn nothing that way.
Surviving on a daily basis, while sustaining for the future, is the biggest challenge I’ve faced. Moving to a new city, with little to no funds/resources, gave me the ability to get creative, and dig deep when it mattered most. To see every day as an adventure and key component to the overall story. The journey to me is the best part. You see how it shapes and molds you to be the best version of yourself; you make things happen, most people would deem impossible. But the obstacles, are the fuel to overcome that false statement.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
In layman’s terms, I’m an audio engineer/producer. But truthfully, I am a conductor.
I bring the elements together, to make long-lasting art, that changes our spirit. It isn’t just about making music… it’s about evoking the soul and creating a presence around the art. The accolades, money, and rewards are greatly appreciated and never taken for granted, but its the look on people’s faces, the messages I receive, the excitement I hear from clients fan’s and the world alike, on how the art we’ve created, changed them in some way.
The LIFE in the art I create is what sets me apart. The attention to detail; the attention to the spirit and that % of the room that God reserves as his seat in the back of the studio. That’s what makes me different. It isn’t the equipment, or plugins, or anything tangible; it’s the Intangible that I excel in.
