Meet Clara Chayantee Songsakhon of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clara Chayantee Songsakhon.

Hi Clara Chayantee, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first started doing makeup when I was 14, during a photography class. But as the course went on, my teacher told me, ‘I don’t think you actually like photography.’ I was surprised and asked, ‘What do you mean?’ And she said, ‘You’re a makeup artist. I believe you’ll go far in this.’ That moment became the turning point for me.

From then on, I began to gain experience, little by little, and discovered how much I truly enjoy makeup. To me, it feels like painting on a canvas — every face tells a different story. I find inspiration in everything around me, and each look I create reflects that. It’s a never-ending journey of growth and creativity, and I’m excited to keep evolving in this art form.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy — in fact, it’s never been easy. Every makeup session feels like a different story, almost like stepping into a brand-new movie with its own characters and emotions. I’ve had to learn through trial and error, again and again. Every mistake has taught me something and shaped me into who I am today.

Over time, I’ve grown stronger and more confident, but I still get excited every single time I pick up a brush. That passion never fades.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I see makeup as a true form of creative expression and art. It’s more than just beauty — it’s emotion, identity, and storytelling. Right now, I’m working with a production team on a series. I started out just helping behind the scenes, but now I’m proud to say that I’ve become the Head of Makeup for the project. It’s a big step, and while I’m proud of how far I’ve come, I also recognize that with the title comes greater responsibility.

Still, I welcome the challenge. I’m constantly learning, evolving, and pushing myself to grow — and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Anything is possible — as long as you truly love what you do. Nothing comes easy, and you will definitely face challenges along the way. But if your heart is in it, you’ll find a way to solve problems, grow from your mistakes, and become better every single day.

Your dream might not matter to everyone, and that’s okay. Because it matters to you. And that’s enough. If you believe in it and keep showing up for yourself, you’ll rise — little by little — to places you never imagined. Just keep going, and keep loving what you do.
