Today we’d like to introduce you to Chiranjeev Shah.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chiranjeev. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As part of an immigrant family, the search for a stable life always continued. I have now lived in three different countries. I had never dreamt of living in LA as I watched thousands and thousands of videos of Youtubers and people I admired. The name “Showtime” came about in the second country I lived in; Toronto, Canada. As an 8th grader, I was learning everything as quickly as possible so I could fit in. I saw an opportunity to showcase my talent at the Talent show. For my audition, I had decided to go back to my roots and what I knew best. I danced on a Bollywood song. The impressed teachers then chose me as the first performer. While backstage at the talent show, my teacher told me that the first person to walk out was called a ‘showstopper’ I figured that wasn’t so cool. Suddenly one of my early friends said, “Showtime!” It brought a huge smile on my face. I can’t imagine an 8th grader wanting to be called “Showtime” until that was proven at the talent show. Everybody started cheering and clapping at the end of my performance and I’m writing history with that name ever since. I wanted to create all mediums of art. Hence, I have the skill set of dancing, video editing, and, what I’m most passionate about music production. I started making music after five months of living in LA when I wanted to listen to music that I made. I wanted to wear clothes that I designed. The purpose of finding my vision into everyday things created the dreamscape that I have for me and my listeners.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has had many different routes and zip codes. The biggest struggle has been financial stability. The motive of saving and not spending always acted as a barrier. For a few of my earliest music projects, they were either produced on my phone or on a laptop which I would purchase and return back to the store before the 30 – day return policy. Some of these early projects I am very proud of due to the desperation of completing the project before a certain due date. Before purchasing my own laptop which I currently have, I have purchased an iMac and all different types of Macbooks. Another obstacle was not having someone teach me even the basics of music production. Therefore, learning from Youtube was my best and only option which was in my price range of free. Although obstacles arrive day in and day out, I am blessed to have my family and friends to help me leap past them.
Latenightwithshowtime – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a wide range creator. I am a true specialist in entertainment. I like to produce the look, the sound, the feeling of the show presented for the audience. I am most proud of being such a multi-cultured being. I am able to include each and every culture I have experienced in my shows and art. My strongest quality of being different then others is the will to tell a story. I believe I want to say and show something that the listeners can see and hear and be astounded. Self-clarity helps me stay true to myself and my vision.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is a message from a listener. A genuine compliment from a listener who has been following my story and has been impacted by my music is the true definition of success. I am the biggest fan of whoever listens to my music.
