Meet Cheryl Townsend of tL* Custom Lighting in Woodland Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Townsend.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a product designer after I graduated from UCLA. My design concepts were primarily in three dimensional so I went into a field that allowed me to use 3D, such as ceramics, contrary to painting. I built the business from the perspective of creating unique designs in lighting that were forward thinking and moving with the technology of the times. For example, we are leaders in the LED market for contract fixtures.

The filed is always changing which I enjoy. Every new project is a new creation developed with patience, collaboration and caring.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles. This is where you find the growth. The desire to learn something new comes from the challenge to have the best solution. My team members are filled with inquisitive, intelligence, diligence and curiosity to learn.

tL* Custom Lighting – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are separated by our unique ability to have an open minded and youthful approach to a very old industry, we will source various materials until we have the correct design concept to make your clients’ ecstatic with their fixture.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a mind set. Everyone has a different opinion. When a client is grateful and pleased with our work, I feel like we have been successful.

Than we work again to achieve the same successful feeling again on the next project.
