Meet Chelsea Seguin and Denshai Lee of B.A.G. Box

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Seguin and Denshai Lee.

Chelsea and Denshai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After years of working together in the fashion industry, we became friends. We often went to a wine bar in the Arts District to unwind and daydream. On one of these evenings, B.A.G. Box was born! We wanted to create something to inspire and lift up other women like us, who are ambitious, driven, and a little spiritual.

We found ourselves burning out and feeling stuck while trying to balance life, work, and pursuing our passions. We asked ourselves, what do we do to get back on track? And we discovered that through self-care, goal setting, and celebrating each other, we found renewal. We decided to box those things up and deliver them on a monthly basis to women across the US!

B.A.G. stands for Boss Ass Goddess. It’s a more empowering way to refer to strong, ambitious women who go after what they want. This is our replacement for the term Bad Ass Bitch, etc. that we hear people throwing around a lot. We thought that by changing the language we could help make it a positive thing to be that woman. We founded our company in September 2018 and shipped our first box in March 2019. We felt that it was important for other women to be represented in our boxes in the spirit of collaboration over competition, so each month we feature one product from another small woman-owned business. Since beginning our journey, we have not only built a social media community and subscriber base, but you can also find us in person at pop-up events around California.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been smooth or straight. Our launch was very successful, followed by an even more successful second box, then followed by a dip in our subscriber base. The decline in our subscriber base led to our exploring live events and finding new customers in person. This was not in the original business plan, but it has been a lot of fun! We finally purchased a dolly, so the future is bright.

One struggle we have encountered is that we have made connections with so many vendors that we don’t have enough boxes to feature them all! Another struggle is building a box with quality and enticing items that will still bring enough profit to keep us in business. We are also both working full-time jobs at a senior level, and that comes with unexpected scheduling conflicts.

Denshai is also a single mom, raising two teenagers – use your imagination – and Chelsea is newly engaged and planning a destination wedding – her cashapp link is…

So, as you know, we’re impressed with B.A.G. Box – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our main focus is the subscription service. We are committed to delivering boxes that women are excited to receive on a monthly basis. What sets us apart is that each box is heavily curated. We pick a theme and message for each box, and then every item that goes into the box relates back to that theme. We try to address a boss ass goddess’ complete needs in one box. There is something inspirational, something to help you rest and re-charge, something for reflecting, and something celebratory in each box. We are most proud of the community that we are building, in which women feel empowered to support and empower each other.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With 2020 approaching, we are taking some of the things we learned from our first year in business and applying them to re-structure for the better. We now also offer a t-shirt on our website, and we are looking forward to developing some of our ideas into stand alone products that we offer year-round. In the far future, we have talked about hosting live events – get ready to level up like a boss, and party like a goddess!
