Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaz Volk.
Chaz, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Just a year ago, I was working for a poorly managed production company. When I saw how celebrities we’re treated while we (emerging artists who took on the rolls of technical labor) were treated, I started my podcast “Mr. Thrive’s Stars of Tomorrow”. I quit my job and worked in a restaurant while building the podcast. I spoke with co-workers to become guests on my show.
A few months later, my Dad approached me, telling me that he wanted a podcast. At first, I was hesitant to work for my Dad again but it was the beginning step to fully realizing the business just under my feet. I started to network in a variety of ways following that. This led to my next client. Then everything clicked. Since then, I’ve seen Mr. Thrive Media grow into the business it is today. We just passed our one year mark. We produce podcasts for a variety of clients, including SmallBizCast, Lemonade Land, The Social Spice Podcast, and The Financial RoadMAP.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Pre-quarantine, the issue was time management. I had a full-time job, along with a business that could only take up enough of my life to be a side-hustle. I wanted this “side-hustle” to be a full-time business. It wasn’t until I got laid off that I took advantage of my new 8 hour work days. I capitalized on this. Getting laid off was the jump-start opportunity I needed to create my business. Skipping the five stages of grief in this transition was key, although I’d later give myself time to process everything I had gone through.
Today, my greatest struggles are the occasional plateaus my business sees. However, this is a great problem to have. As I grow, I’ll be able to delegate and turn Mr. Thrive Media into a fully-functioning influence in the entertainment industry.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Mr. Thrive Media is a multi-media business that specializes in podcast production and networking parties for artists and entertainment professionals. Our mission statement is to “Generate engaging media while connecting artists across the nation.” I work with individuals to mid-size companies who struggle with putting an edge on their competition by making them an authority in the topic they’re passionate about. People hire me because I’ve established a fun and affordable way to reach communities utilizing the most intimate art form there is.
What sets me apart is the personal experience and flexibility of my service. I’m not only willing to work with my client’s needs but invest in my clientele. We are soon to be adding more services that monetize the podcasts themselves so that our clientele see the value we bring. Lastly, we don’t believe in audiences. We believe in communities. Our philosophy helps us understand our marketing strategies and client satisfaction goals.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment, funny enough, was what followed after getting laid off from my job. As brought up before, I skipped the five stages of grief and committed to the idea of building a self-sustained business. This proved to be the best paradigm shift my mind had ever made. A lesson my father has taught is that “Attitude is aptitude.” Since taking that to heart, I’ve grown not only as a business owner but as a man.
