Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Frampton.
Chanel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2009, I co-founded a nonprofit called Kingdom Kids. Kingdom Kids (501c3) gave at-risk youth opportunities to find their voices through arts mentoring and education. The organization served children ranging between the ages of 5-18; incorporating programs, which included writing, visual arts, performing arts, and music. Often, children who have been abused, neglected, homeless, and/or dealing with other challenges tend to gravitate towards artistic expression. Our organization actively collaborated with community leaders and partners, which allowed us to expand outreach, increase capacity, and achieve a much greater impact. During this time, I coined the phrase “Academicballin”. I was further inspired to encourage students to take more interest in high scholastic achievement and in turn, become eligible for potential scholarships. The organization became very successful; however, I knew that I desired to learn how to fundraise on a bigger scale. Therefore, I was accepted and attended the University of Southern California. I received my master’s in Nonprofit management and public administration.
As fate would have it, I received a position working at the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce. In this position, I am responsible for working with, mentoring, facilitating college preparation for at promise youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. I consistently use the “Academicballin” method to help them become successful in school. Whether I spoke in a public or private schools, my teaching methods were very well received. It was in this I realized that I needed to expand my knowledge with students on a broader scale.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any business, old and new, there will be challenges. I believe moving from the founding to the grounding stages in an organization is a continuous learning curve, and I am no exception to the rule. My organization is fortunate to be connected to a chamber of commerce where I have access to tools and resources when challenges do arise.
Academic Ballin – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Academic Ballin is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic dreams by giving them the tools to become financial debt-free. Financial obstacles can become overwhelming and our pledge is to assist students through personal coaching, webinars, workshops and a scholarship portal. It is my belief that our one on one coaching is a game-changer. Not only is our team confident in meeting and adapting to the individual needs of each person involved with our program, we also are seriously committed to the fact that nurturing boosts confidence and necessary life skills.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was being able to establish international support and ambassadors. AcademicBallin has ambassadors in Italy and Dubai. Our clothing line is part of the marketing tool that we are using to increase our global brand placement. Moving forward, I am excited to see how we continue to grow and believe that the possibilities are endless.
