Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra UySmith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cassandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A coast-to-coast childhood, a residential high school, a broken engagement, a kick-ass semester in New Zealand, a disappointing undergraduate degree, marriage, three explored career paths and then an acceptance into a revered Master’s of Architecture program. I was ecstatic. It was merely two days later I found out that I was pregnant. Then came the school deferral, the second pregnancy, and the final declination for the program. I was an educated, ambitious woman spending day in and day out with two children under two. Alas, with the will to get out of the house and stretch my creative muscle, I started FireRose Photography and Bartending. Bartending to fund the photography equipment. Obviously.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Any successful creative mind has a strong sense of business, oooooor they’ve hired people. Talent seems only to be half the battle. The other half lies in the way one executes their business model.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the FireRose Photography and Bartending story. Tell us more about the business.
During the day, we are primarily a light chasing company. At night, we create our own. We specialize in being able to seamlessly transition between different qualities and quantities of light as an event unfolds. That’s what photography is after all…being able to see light in all of its forms.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m lucky that the bridezillas seem to have leeched on to another photographer because I have seriously worked with the kindest, most genuine women (and men), most of whom I’m lucky to now call friends.
