Meet Casey Landman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Landman.

Hi Casey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It’s amazing to be here!

Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved telling stories. Which sounds so cliche but, whatever, it’s true. Whether it was playing with barbies or playing mermaids until I’m a literal prune, my imagination has always been my favorite thing to explore. I wish I could tell you when I began acting, but it started from the minute I could talk. Any opportunity to perform was taken. So it’s not surprise that when it came time to go to university, I decided to pursue Acting at NYU Tisch.

During my freshman year there, —warning, it’s about to get dramatic—I was diagnosed with cancer. During chemotherapy and radiation, I began writing a blog that made me realize that telling my own story was just as powerful as telling someone else’s. I’m now six years cancer free and am vehemently telling stories through my acting and my writing. I graduated from NYU in 2019 and started working professionally, and co-produced, directed, wrote, and starred in a proof of concept for an animated series called Casey the Frog during the pandemic! For my day job, I began working as a matchmaker (FOR REAL) for a company called Tawkify. My client actually got married this past year! I’ve been with them for two years and am obsessed with having a ‘survival’ job that also brings me (and others!) joy.

I’m now in LA, (though I’m a PROUD NEW YORKER!) at the University of Southern California where I’m pursuing an MFA in Acting. Trying to get that second change at college, given how my undergrad got a bit fuzzy with my cancer experience.

I’m in pre-production for a feature film that I wrote and writing a pilot with a writing partner of mine.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
If this is a smooth road, I’m fearful of what a rocky one looks like. I’m only half kidding! As I just shared, it was definitely a whirlwind dealing with cancer at 18 and then hopping right back into my acting training. And as any artist would likely agree, pursuing a career in the arts is an uncertain and challenging feat in itself. So while it’s been tough and full of a myriad of types of obstacles, I wouldn’t change anything. I don’t think so, anyway. I feel grateful to be alive, as cheesy as it sounds, and to have the ability to follow my dreams. It’s not something to take lightly. So when those obstacles arise, I try to remind myself what I’m doing it for. Because, sometimes, the biggest obstacles in our way are our own thoughts.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Besides being able to say the alphabet backwards (YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT ABOUT ME, I’M VERY PROUD!) I’m an actor and a writer! I’ve been acting since I could talk. With writing, though I’ve always done it, it became real for me when I was diagnosed with cancer at 18. I began blogging and found power and strength within my words, and from sharing my words with others. Since then, I’ve written lots of short films, a feature-length psychological thriller that is currently in pre-production, and a proof of concept for an animated series called ‘Casey the Frog,’ which is meant to help children with cancer understand and communicate about their experiences.

Acting-wise, most recently, you can see me on Amazon Prime in the indie film Goodbye Petrushka. One of the films I’m most proud of is a film called ‘Scar’ directed by Alison Hale. I have some exciting things coming out this year as well! The next episode of the internet-famous series, Inanimate Insanity, comes out soon–and I’ll be continuing to voice Cabby. It’s a hilarious and brilliant team of animators and writers–definitely check it out. I’m proudly a part of this third season!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I feel like we’re in the world of multi-hyphenates. If anything, the amount of content we have is going to only grow and the opportunity to tell stories in a myriad (this is my favorite word, if you can’t tell) of ways is going to continue to present itself. I hope to continue collaborating with folks from different walks of life, so I can continue to create and learn in tandem. I’m excited!!! I hope you are, too 🙂
