Meet Carmen and Camille Thomas of Carmen & Camille in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen and Camille Thomas.

Carmen and Camille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are twins, originally from Vancouver, Canada but have lived in LA now for the past eight years. We grew up in a musical household (our parents were in a band together before we were born) so they encouraged us to sing and pick up instruments. We started writing music together and really decided to focus on music after college.

One day we decided to pack up our lives and make our way to LA and have loved it here ever since. Through the years, we have been nominated for a Juno, performed for troops overseas in Egypt, Greece, and Dubai toured all over and had many songs licensed in TV and film.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a journey for sure, mostly smooth but a few bumps along the way. When we first moved to LA we were working on music with a very talented producer, Tal Herzberg, but sadly he passed away, and we lost that project.

The EP that was currently working on (and almost done yay) for our side project CXC has been very hands on. Camille is co-producing, and we’ve been there for every aspect of this album. It’s taken a bit longer than we’ve liked, but fortunately, it’s almost done, and it’s been a very fulfilling process.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have gone in a bit of a different direction with our sound for this album. Our new music is not the same as the old music you find online. We like adding elements of quirkiness and mixing live and digital instruments.

We do a lot of harmonies (we call them Carmonies) and love bands like Queen and The Beatles that used a lot of lush harmonies in their music.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We love LA, it really is a great place for people in the music industry. You can feel like a little fish in a big pond sometimes, but it is inspiring to be around so many talented people. It keeps you on your toes!

Superb. I love the girls so much. I wish there was more I could do to boost their careers so they can do what they love for the rest of their lives.
