Today we’d like to introduce you to Calista Gibbs.
Hi Calista, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved sports and storytelling, so I decided to combine the two. I started Calista Reports Sports as a way to share my passion for covering games, interviewing players and coaches, and capturing the energy of high school athletics — especially at Laguna Hills High School. At first, it was just me filming highlights and posting quick recaps, but over time it’s grown into something bigger. Now I do postgame interviews, behind-the-scenes content, and share stories that spotlight our athletes and teams. My goal is to keep growing as a reporter and one day take that same passion to the sidelines of the NFL.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting out, I had to learn everything on my own — from filming and editing to interviewing and being confident on camera. Balancing school, sports coverage, and other commitments hasn’t been easy either. There were times when things didn’t go as planned — equipment issues, or even nerves. But every challenge has helped me grow and get better at what I do. It’s all part of the process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Through this, I cover all things high school athletics, especially at Laguna Hills High School. I film games, take photos, and interview players and coaches to tell the stories behind the scoreboard. I specialize in postgame interviews and creating highlight content that captures the excitement and emotion of each game.
I’m most proud of how much my platform has grown — not just in followers, but in the connections I’ve made with athletes and the community. What sets me apart is my genuine passion for storytelling. I don’t just focus on stats or scores — I focus on the people, their hard work, and the moments that make sports special. My goal is to keep growing as a reporter and eventually take my love for sports reporting to the professional level
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my family and our close family friends would wake up early to go to the beach. We’d load up the cars while it was still dark, grab breakfast on the way, and spend the entire day there surfing, and just hanging out. Those days were always full of fun and good vibes.
