Meet Brittany Hallatt of Sugar Happy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hallatt

Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been one of those people that had a hard time choosing what I wanted to do “when I grow up”. However, there was one thing in common with all of the professions I gravitated towards; and that one thing was helping others in some way. Also, just working alongside others. Sitting in a cubicle was just not the life for me.

After completing my Associates degree and getting ready to transfer to a four year local University and working as a cocktail server, I abruptly decided to change my course of action and quickly enrolled myself at Paul Mitchell’s ‘Skin Academy’.
I remember my logic of honing in on one thing I felt I was good at made sense and so, going into the trade of being an Esthetician felt in alignment. I loved makeup and eyebrows!

Fast forward to 15 years in the industry and there hasn’t been an ounce of regret. I am the proud owner of Sugar Happy in Newport Beach where i have the most loyal clients that become like family. I am honored when people choose to enter my doors, especially with all the amazing estheticians out there. I am constantly learning, creating, and able to offer a safe and comfortable space for my clients to relax, get pampered and leave feeling their most radiant and confident self.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an owner of a beauty business definitely has its ebbs and flows along with way. There is the constant struggle of keeping people coming through your doors, requires strategy and a self-starting attitude to be successful. As oppose to showing up for a 9-5 everyday and collecting your earnings, YOU are the sole catalyst of your livilihood.

Bottom line is people move, they get married, have children, have to cut back on expenses, upon various other reasons they stop coming to you, but you can’t take it personally. This will only set you back more. Keeping a positive mindset and stepping up your marketing campaigns, posting on socials, etc. is your best bet.

This can be the biggest hurdle for me, being that I am more of a people person and often wanting to just ‘get to work’ per se, as the business side of things isn’t always my forte. However, it is empowering to know that it is pivotal for me to overcome those fears and discomforts in order to run a successful business. It is normal to feel defeated at times, being a small business owner, but not giving up is where the growth and magic truly happens.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sugar Happy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sugar Happy is a one-woman-operation, located on the coast of Newport Beach in Orange County, California. I started Sugar Happy in 2014, we hit a huge milestone of 10 years of business earlier this year! We specialize in organic hair removal, known as Sugaring, which is made up of all natural ingredients; sugar, water, and lemon juice. It is more gentle than traditional wax, even for the most intimate of body parts, offering baby smooth skin, along with other skin benefits.

Aside from Sugaring, we offer cutting edge, medical grade skin care services such as chemical peels, lymphatic drainage, and dermaplaning. As well as, lash-lifts, brow lamination, and even in-office, natural teeth whitening services.

I love the idea of being a ‘one-stop-shop’ for my busy clients who are on-the- go or just want to maximize their time. There’s never a day that goes by that I don’t feel grateful for those who support my women-owned, small business. My goal is that my clients feel that warmth and gratitude when they come in for any type of service.
