Meet Brittanie Seymone Bailey of The Modern Bride Concierge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittanie Seymone Bailey.

Hi Brittanie Seymone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young girl, I always had this idea of what I wanted my life to be. From baker, fashion designer, Air Force One shoe designer (hahaha) to celebrity party planner, I knew from the start I wanted to be a creative entrepreneur. I was most definitely the “bossy” child and a natural leader so I figured business ownership was my dream job growing up.

After years of forcing myself in the 9-5 model in my early college years, as that’s what everyone around me was doing, I gave up the idea of having a “regular job” and decided to follow my passion and get a degree in Communication Studies and Entrepreneurship. My love for weddings started later in my life after my internship during my last semester in college. I was always the party planner friend in high school, planning weekend activities, sweet 16s, and small events for family members. When I had to intern for a business owner for my business class, I was stumped on who until someone suggested I’d be good at event design. So I looked into it, LOVED the idea of weddings, and emailed a dozen wedding planners in my area. After mostly “nos” I got a response, and turns out she was my neighbor! I had no idea who she was but knew this was fate. After my three months internship, I was hooked!

Shortly after, I started worked with one of the top wedding planners in Orange County, LVL Events before I took a leap of faith in myself and started The Modern Bride Concierge in 2014. I wanted The Modern Bride Concierge to be a more personal, intimate, and involved process. I wanted my clients to feel taken care of from beginning to bittersweet end, so I made it my mission to focus on the client experience rather than building a crazy big team to take as much business as possible, as many planners in the area we’re focusing on. TMB philosophy is quality over quantity, and I wanted to create a luxury experience that couldn’t be done without this philosophy. I am the face of my business, and I want my clients to know I am the one working hard to bring their wedding day vision to fruition.

After having my daughters in 2018, and 2020, I dedicated the rest of the year to jumping all in and get serious with my passion. A brand redesign, new systems and processes, education, and networking, the whole nine to make sure I’m ready and dedicated to this dream I have for myself. I want to be the inspiration for my daughters that you can do whatever you want, and be successful, and love what you do. I’m a born dreamer and I wanted to walk in my truth for my children to see and be proud of. This year, more than ever I wanted to realign myself and my brand and be the go-to planner helping brides celebrate love. 2020 and beyond, weddings are going to be different, more intentional so I made sure my business mission and model followed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s the joy of it all. Being an entrepreneur is HARD! It’s such a glamourized concept these days, but people don’t mention that it’s a lot of work, it’s a lot of soul searching, long nights, isolation, everything. And on top of it all, you have to believe in yourself more than anyone else ever will and bet on yourself 100% of the time. My biggest struggle along the way was and still is imposture syndrome. Doubting and questioning myself, my skills, and my creativity. Comparing myself to the hundreds of other planners in the industry, and convincing myself the market was too saturated. Questioning if people would even hire me in the area cause I don’t look like them, being a black girl in Orange County is a struggle in itself, and so much more. Imposture syndrome is so crippling and if you’re not tapped into yourself, it’ll take over and have you settling for a life you don’t want. I started my business in 2014, and it took me until now, 2020 to finally say you know what, there’s a chance that I fail, but what if I don’t? What if all the things I think are holding me back are actually the things people and the industry need? My success is 100% on me, and that alone is the struggle but also the reward!
